Runner's World is the largest running website in the UK. We have more than 475,000 members, two-thirds of whom regularly take part in races. By using our secure credit-card processing system to take entries for your event, we can offer you a unique package of cross-media promotion to make sure your event reaches the very heart of the UK running community.
HOW IT WORKS: THE BASICS
We enable runners to enter your race by credit card on our site. We store all their details for you to download at any time, and we send you a batch payment every month. We promote the race in Runner's World magazine, on the website, and by monthly emails. We take a small commission on every entry, which can be charged to either the runner or the organiser, or split between the two.
HOW WE WILL PROMOTE YOUR RACE
By choosing to use our online-entry service, you'll be putting your race at the heart of the UK running community. Our race diary receives more than 55,000 visitors daily and we send regional Events listings to more than 160,000 users each month.
Here's how we promote our online-entry races:
Enhanced Site Listing
Your listing in our race diary will feature a distinctive 'Enter online' icon and an enhanced 'RW Says' comment. All visitors to the site will also be able to access your event details, regardless of whether they are a registered member or magazine subscriber.
Superior Magazine Listing
We are the UK's largest running magazine, reaching more than 200,000 readers each month. Each issue contains a dedicated Race Diary section – within this, you'll receive an enhanced text entry promoting your event.
Our Events emails are sent to more than 160,000 website members across five distinct regions (South, North, Central, South-West and East) each month. Listing between six and eight weeks worth of upcoming races, we'll include a preview and link to your event in whichever mailing targets the most local runners to you.
We can set up a short URL that points directly to your event listing – ideal for publicising your event on promotional materials.

All entrants to your event via our site will receive an e-mail prompt on the day of the race, asking them to leave feedback on the site. These ratings will provide you with an instant evaluation of how your event was received (without the need for a follow-up survey) and help you hone in on what runners might look for in the future.
CUSTOMISE YOUR LISTING
You can customise your listing by adding:
- A race-day image or logo to the top of your page
- Up to five customised questions to our standard entry form (eg ‘Do you have any medical conditions or allergies?' or ‘How did you hear about the race?')
- Up to ten paid-for extras particular to your event (eg T-Shirts, transport options, hot meals). Runners won't be charged on any extras that they order – the commission is only applied to the race-entry fee.
As a race organiser, you'll have access to your own private admin page on the website.
From here, you can:
- view live entrant lists on screen or download them as a spreadsheet-compatible (.csv) file
- amend your entry limit or online-entry closing date at any time
- choose to be notified by email every time one, 10 or 50 runners enter, or when your chosen online-entry limit is reached
Once the online entry limit is reached, runners will no longer be able to enter online unless you change your event settings.
You won't receive an SAE from our online entrants, but most organisers are perfectly happy with this - especially as you can use your entrant list to print out labels.
Our secure credit-card processing system is able to take payments from runners 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each month, we will make a payment straight into your bank account and send you a statement. The payment will refer to all the entries taken during the month previous. Of course, if you prefer, we can arrange a cheque payment.
We take a commission on every entry as follows:
- £1.50 per entry for entries costing up to £10;
- £2 per entry for entries costing £10.01 to £20;
- £3 per entry for entries costing £20.01 to £30, and so on.
This commission can be charged to the runner or to the organiser, or split half and half between the two.
For example, for an entry costing £8 (incurring £1.50 commission):
- Commission charged to the runner: the runner would pay £9.50, and we would send the organiser the full £8.
- Commission charged to the organiser: the runner would pay £8, and we would send the organiser £6.50.
- Commission split half and half: the runner would pay £8.75, and we would send the organiser £7.25.
The commission is applied solely to the race entry fee, and not to any optional extras (T-shirts, hot meals etc.) for which you may also be taking money through our site.
Charities If you are a registered charity, then your event will qualify for VAT exemption and we will deduct VAT from our commission calculations. You will be given the opportunity to submit your charity number along with your payment details. Please note: the event itself needs to be a registered charity. We cannot accept charity numbers on behalf of an organisation for whom you are raising funds.

ADDITIONAL MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES
Target 110,000 third party UK members via paid-for solus mailouts. Select user groups according to UK postcode or profile characteristics - for example, type of runner or favourite distance. No other advertiser will appear on the creative.
This is a great way of efficiently reaching the appropriate running audience in your local area. We can also supply a clickthrough report after the mailout to ensure a positive response for your campaign.
Our Events channel is one of our biggest traffic drivers, receiving around 1.7 million impressions a month. Advertise your event through buttons, skyscrapers or MPUs and you can reach a captive audience who could well choose your race as the next to enter.
