On Saturday 3 June 2017 ASICS Stockholm will take place for the 39th time. To run a marathon, 42,195 metres, through the streets of Stockholm is something everyone must do – at least once in their life. For the challenge. For the emotional experience.
Stockholm was one of Europe’s first real urban marathons. Here you run right around the centre of the city, passing many historical buildings and famous landmarks. Such as the Royal Palace, Opera House, Royal Dramatic Theatre, City Hall and Stockholm Central Station.
Since Stockholm is built on a series of islands, large parts of the course run along the waterfront. Västerbron bridge is one the most talked-about features of the course – from here you get a magnificent view over half of the city. The 1912 Olympic Stadium, the spectacular finish to the race, is another popular feature. There is free entry for family and friends who want to cheer you over the final emotional metres towards the finish line.
In 2015 ASICS Stockholm Marathon was Europe’s 5th largest marathon with 20,532 runners from 101 nations.
ASICS Stockholm Marathon is widely considered to be the world’s most beautiful marathon. And the race is often praised for being one of the most well organised and best serviced marathons in the world. An enthusiastic crowd and skilled officials add extra dimension to the experience.
Take a look at the latest trailer which captures perfectly both the race itself and how it really feels to be a marathon runner.
