Since way back in 2002 the Windsor Half-Marathon has been a real-life meeting place for runners who have got to know each other on RW's forum.
The last few years have become even more sociable, with a big forum marquee and food and drink for any RW member who wants to contribute a few pounds to the cost of it. All organised by the forum members themselves.
All you have to do is add yourself to the list on the forum (there's lots of chat on the thread, but just copy and paste the list from the last place it appeared on the thread, and add your name to it). Forum member BB will drop you a line with more details. As she explains:
"Windsor Half Marathon Forum marquee/beer tent details:-
"For a few years now a fab Marque has been organised for forum members and their guests at Windsor Great Park.
Meeting up both before and afterwards at our own marquee, hired for the day from the organisers of the event.
It has been a great success, as it gave the opportunity to base ourselves somewhere, and meet others for a few hours to chat/eat/drink etc, many not leaving until 6 p.m.
This year it will be £10 each,(to be collected by cheque,in advance),
all inclusive (free to under 16's), and that includes hire of the marquee, food and drink. We have £130 left over from last year.
If you are interested and prepared to pay up please add a star by your name on the list, and I'll be in touch by e-mail over the next few weeks to confirm the booking and make arrangements for the £10 to be collected. BD and I organised it last year and can provide character references if required:-)
Please ensure your e-mail is enabled, or if you prefer to keep your email-address off forum, just email me with your details.
Tell your friends too:-)"
Here's how last year's went:
"It's Forum tradition for a Marquee to be hired at the Windsor Half Marathon, so Forumites from far and near can gather before and after the event. 2005 was no exception, and BB and BD worked hard beforehand to make sure that all was well on the day. As race-day approached many Forumites got busy baking, and on the day itself there were lots of goodies for all to enjoy. For the first time there was a sports masseur there to work those miles out after the race, and there was even a kind of crèche in operation during the race, alongside the usual Forum baggage service. It's great to have a place to relax, both before and after such a big and crowded event, and it's thanks to Snoop Dogg (who first implemented the idea) and BB and BD that those who took part this year were able to enjoy this luxury."
Race well – and enjoy the marquee!
