It was a magical day...
Good bits - the crowds, the free oranges, giving all the kids high-fives
along the way (until someone said be careful they may try to nick your
watch), a priest at about mile 3 splashing the runners with holy water, the
finish, the medal, expression on my kids faces, seeing the elite runners go
through 22 miles when I'd done 13 - gosh those guys can fly - raising £1,800
for MEDICS
Bad bits - Lucozade (used to like it but too much in one session), pulled
hamstring at 22.5 miles (had to walk for 2 miles, lost about 10 minutes), huge
puddles around docklands making feet wet and socks rub, Orange cock-up with
start time (the text message they sent to my wife was 1 hour out so the
family managed to completely miss me)
Overall, brilliant. Thoroughly recommend for anyone - will definitely do
next year.
