Drum roll, please! All week, we'll be unveiling our annual review of the best races the UK has to offer. As with previous years, we've been guided by the votes of the readers of runnersworld.co.uk - but to mix things up we've introduced a new format.
We've divided the top-rated races into the following categories: 10K; half-marathon; marathon; and other distances. Check out this page every day this week for a new countdown - and visit the site on Friday for a round-up of the best events judged by specific criteria: scenery, atmosphere, beginner-friendliness and the potential to run a personal best. Read on to find out if your top run has made the cut.
Further to the Top 10 charts featured in the February issue of Runner's World (available in newsagents now) we can exclusively reveal the full Top 20 for each distance, and the Top 5 for each of the scenery, atmosphere, PB potential and beginner-friendly charts.

How we did it
The rankings were worked out using ratings given by respondents on runnersworld.co.uk after they had taken part in the races. Due to the magazine's print deadlines, we looked at races that took place in the 12 months between December 1, 2009 and December 1, 2010.
We then worked out the average 'overall' rating that runners gave their events, allowing us to rank them. However, only races that received 35 or more votes were included - this is because we felt that by working from a larger sample size, we could better reflect the general response to an event.
How to rate a race
Your opinion counts! To rate a race, find it by searching backwards on our event search page, click the race name and scroll to rate it at the bottom of its page.
You can see all ratings using the event search, or the 'latest ratings' pages.
