How the results were calculated

This list was calculated using ratings given by respondents on www.runnersworld.co.uk after they took part in the races. We worked out the average of the 'overall' rating runners gave races, to arrive at a figure between 0 and 100%, allowing us to rank them. This chart represents races that received between 7 and 14 responses.

Why? A unique 10-mile endurance run over the undulating multi-terrain course used in the Parachute Regiment's Selection, with the option to carry a 35lb rucksack and wear military boots for an even tougher challenge.

Why? Run between Lizard Point and Land's End, the course takes in 44 miles of the South West Coastal Path. Tackle the distance alone or as a four-person relay.

Why? After a two-year absence, the return of this stunning tour of the Solway coast had runners clamouring for its appointment as a regular racing fixture.

Why? Unbeatable views - once you’ve climbed the Cotswold Escarpment - plus cold local beer waiting at the finish.

Why? On a sunny day you'll be able to see as far as the Peak District when the route reaches the highest point in West Yorkshire.
