RW Previews (North): Great Cumbrian Half, Oct 12

Carlisle, a castle, parkland and the River Eden... it's the Great Cumbrian Half-Marathon

Posted: 15 September 2003

Where and when?
Sunday, October, 5, Carlisle

What is it?
The Great Cumbrian Half is an out-and-back race, with flat roads and a rural setting. The course takes in some of the best sights that Carlisle has to offer. It starts and finishes with a lap around Sheepmount Stadium and then moves out into the parklands that run parallel to the River Eden.

By the mid-way point you'll be able to feast your eyes on the picturesque sights of Carlisle Castle, before joining onto the Brampton Road and moving towards Crosby Lodge.

Once there, you'll knuckle down to a 'testing' hairpin before tackling the same route on the way back to the stadium.

What the organisers say:
“The event caters for runners of all abilities and really is a fantastic course to run.” What else do you need to know?

What RW says:
"It's in our top 100 races in Great Britain."

Watch out for:

The route takes in the delightful sights of Crosby Lodge.
