RW Previews (North): Inov-8, October, 12

A new course through some of the most scenic countryside Durham has to offer

Posted: 25 September 2003

Where and when?
Sunday, October, 12, Durham

What is it?
The Inov -8 kicks off a new form of trail running in the North East. Inspired by the Karrimor International Mountain Marathon, the event route will change every year, offering competitors the best locations the Durham Dales have to offer, making each year's race unique in character. But worry not - unlike the KIMM, there's no navigation involved, and no backpacks!

This year’s inaugural edition is a cracker. Set in Hamsterley Forest and comprising an eight-mile route along forest tracks, trails and moorland paths. After a short yet sharp climb at the start, you’ll reach the top of the valleys and can expect some spectacular scenery.

After a spot of dense woodland, you'll reach the side of a ridge, looking down across the moors, before passing a spectacular waterfall. After a short tarmac stretch the final two and a half miles are all downhill.

What the organisers say:
“Put a little bit of adventure in your sole!” Do you get it?

What RW says:
“With views like these, expect a field of at least 200 runners for this new event.”

Watch out for:
The new shoes that give the race its name.
