RW Previews (South): Wildlife Trust 10K, October 5

A new 10K course in the South-East! That has to be worth checking out

Posted: 15 September 2003

Where and when?
Sunday, October, 5, Cambridge

What is it?
This event has risen in stature and is now in its seventh year. In order to accommodate the possibility of a 1000-plus field, the organisers have formulated a brand spanking new course. It’s flat, fast and run along quiet country lanes, so expect traffic to be at a minimum.

The route itself incorporates two and a bit laps through the back of the local University buildings, including the old libraries. The race is part of the Nike A1 Series and this year holds the Grand Prix final.

A park and ride scheme is now up and running and is only five minutes away from the start.

What the organisers say:
Uncontroversially, "The Cambridge 10K starts at the University Wilberforce Road Sports Ground and follows a new and much improved course passing close to the Colleges and including mostly traffic-free areas. This will allow for a greater number of runners to take part."

What you say:
Als says, “It’s well organised and has a good atmosphere... It is very flat, and was a PB for me... I'll be there again this year!” Bravo.

What RW says:
"One of the country's fastest autumn 10Ks."

Watch out for:
The route takes in some of the University's most prestigious colleges and buildings.

Any extras?
