The ever-present mud and some unexpected wind greeted competitors at the Benfleet 15 in Essex on January 27.
Considered by many to be one of Essex’s finest off-road races, conditions were considerably drier underfoot at this 15-mile race than they have been in previous years.
However, runners unprepared for the challenging ground were still in danger of coming unstuck. It was hard to find fault in the organisation and marshalling but the organisers might want to revert back to a T-shirt for finishers rather than this year’s less enthusiastically received goody bags.
Crispian Bloomfield won in 1:26:05 while Tracey Curl was the first lady in 1:49:46.
