It’s possible that there were hordes of female runners planning to descend upon the Chicks Chase 5K in Milton Keynes on January 10, but we’ll never know.

Arctic winds and generally freezing conditions meant that the turnout for this women-only event was restricted to just 25 intrepid runners.

Nonetheless, those who did show up enjoyed a pancake-flat and beautifully scenic fast trot around the outside of Caldecotte Lake, before retiring to race HQ at the Caldecotte Arms pub for a hot meal afterwards.

Not to leave the boys out, there was a men’s 5K over the same course, starting 30 mins after the girls. Samantha Linney was first past the post in 24:33.
