First Woman Alex Gostling 35:20
If Nell McAndrew was chasing you down a country lane, would you be encouraged to speed up or slow down?
This was the dilemma facing more than 1,000 runners as they joined McAndrew in the Dewsbury 10K in West Yorkshire on February 4.
The fast course might have lacked picture-postcard scenery but the organisation was spot on, with chip timing making up for the slightly disorganised start, and fresh, sunny weather and an even surface helping many runners to a personal best.
Billy Farquharson didn’t seem to be distracted by other runners, coming home first in 30:11, while Alex Gostling was first lady in 35:20. McAndrew finished in 43:42.
