First Man Des Woods 43:41
First Woman Karen Alexander 48:48

Now in its eighth year, the six-mile Glenariff Mountain Race on March 14 saw 74 (fool)hardy runners brave skin-stripping headwinds as they tackled a severely challenging course.

The race started and finished in the rural village of Waterfoot, County Antrim. In between it meandered for three miles beside the scenic Glenariff River, before leading runners into a 1,100ft climb to the top of the Glen.

The reward for completing this Herculean task? A sack of spuds.

Des Woods was first man in 43:41 and Karen Alexander was first woman in 48:48.
