Now in its 26th year, the Harrold Pit Run in Bedford comprised four races: the 4.8K 'Pit Run' for anyone over the age of 13, a wheelchair race and two kids' races, one for four- to eight-year-olds and the other for nine- to 13-year-olds.

The atmosphere had a friendly, village feel to it; as well as the day of races there were various stalls and attractions to keep families and spectators entertained, including skittles, a bungee run, a bar area and a band.

Over 160 competitors enjoyed the beautiful scenery as they ran from the village green through Harrold Village and around all the lakes in the Country Park, before enjoying a well-supported finish back at the green.

It was a very efficiently organised race; the marshals were well drilled and there were distance markers at every kilometre to help runners with their splits.

There was a good mix of keen athletes, plodders and fun runners – many in fancy dress – and with numerous achievement categories, there were plenty of winners.
