First Man Peter Newton 33:17
First Woman Helen Lawrence 36:30

The Heaton Harriers Memorial 10K in Newcastle upon Tyne was founded in 1920 in remembrance of those who died in the First World War.

This year’s race on November 11 was preceded by one minute’s silence before around 400 runners set off to tackle the two-lap loop of Town Moor.

Plenty of twists and turns, as well as strong wind, tested stamina, but the course did at least avoid some of the Moor’s bigger hills.

Peter Newton was first home in 33:17, while ladies’ winner Helen Lawrence took one second off the women’s course record to finish in 36:30.
