A 3,700ft climb and 15 miles weren't all the runners tackling Roaches Fell Race, near Leek, in Staffordshire, had to endure on November 13 as the local cows had also left their mark.

Cow dung aside, bright, sunny weather, great views over the White Peak edge and good organisation saw 187 out of 195 finish the challenging course.

Runners were rewarded with hot drinks at the finish at Meerbrook Village Hall, the first of them being Simon Bailey in 1:58:21. The first woman home was Jackie Lee in 2:28:20.
