The Yorkshireman Off Road Marathon has been going for 15 years. This year's race on September 24 attracted a record number of runners taking part in the full 26.2 miles and the half.

With older races enjoying a renaissance and many new events being launched, the desire to tackle challenging off-road races in rugged rural scenery shows no signs of diminishing. This event in particular provides an extra challenge as a little navigation is required.

A two-page narrative of the route guided runners through the 10 checkpoints on their way to the finish in Haworth, where they were treated to some Morris dancing. First home was Chris Stubbs in 3:27:04 - a time that reflects the difficulty of the course - while Carmen Anthony was first lady in 4:13:37.
