I ran the Moray marathon in 2002 in 3:11 (pb 2:58). It is a unique experience in British marathons. First it is the most Northern marathon in Britain, and runs along a coast for about 8 miles. It is quite flat because Morayshire is not near the mountains. The standard is extremely high (average time of 3:39 in 2002) and the last finisher was 4:50 ! It mixes with a half marathon in the second half (first half on its own). In conclusion it is for the better marathon runner (not first timer), but the course is flat (I should have run 3:03). If you like hill walking because of its solitude and scenery you will like this.

Hi Tom, I did the 10k last year and the half marathon this year and got a PB from the Half this year. Doubt if I would ever attempt the marathon as you say you would be running on your own if you were a slower runner like me.
