Has the editorial staff at runners world not heard of a part of the UK called Northern Ireland? Not a single marathon mentioned for this region.

Some great races over here, like the beautiful Causeway coast marathon, scenic mourneway marathon, Belfast city marathon and the fast Newry city marathon.

I doubt if Runners World trawl the web finding marathons to publicise.  I imagine they rely on Race Organisers making them aware of the races, so your ire is probably best directed elsewhere

Missing the Rutland Water Marathon, surely! That was my joint favourite last year.

From what I was told by one event organiser it seems RW levies a 10% charge of entry fee per entrant when from the organisers so if the organisers are not willing to pay then they will not feature on the RW si

Hi all,

The calendar above features all the marathons listed so far for 2012 on runnersworld.co.uk (with or without online entry through RW!) - it's a showcase of the many and varied marathons on our event listings, nothing more, nothing less!

It's free to add a listing to our event search - and we will update the calendar as the year goes on, just drop us a line to let us know your event's on the site (events@runnersworld.co.uk)

Bear B. Hind, we do charge a fee per entrant for entries through our system and have always been totally transparent about this. It reflects the reduced admin bother for organisers, the use of our secure payments system and also the unparalleled (we think) editorial exposure to the UK's running community through newsletters, previews and in the 'online entry' box on the homepage. It's not 10% though - it's on a sliding scale and the exact pricing structure can be found on the event organiser information.

Hope that clears things up! We're as passionate about the UK racing scene as you are, and as proud of the awesome range of marathons in this country. Featuring only the races listed on RW is simply a manageable way for us to cover the UK's marathons, and promote what we think is a great event search system - and one that's easy and free for any UK marathon to get themselves included on!

Thanks for your reply.  I got the 10% from one organiser so quoted that, apologies for being misleading - although the 10% seems to be a flat rate for entrants as far as my experience goes.

I was just making a point that the races featured were not randomly selected from all those available, but only where the organisers had chosen to pay for the facilities offered by RW.

TZ

The Kent Roadrunner Marathon on Bank Holiday 4th June 2012 is absent from the article, but doea apear in the site's event listings.

We have applied for RW to manage online entries. I am sure the staff will have it set up for us very soon.

 It's going to be great event, using a 2,5km all-tarmac traffic-free circuit at a brand-new multi-sport event near the M25.
