I loved every second of the day - well, maybe not the last 2.5 miles.....!
The organisation was outstanding, all the helpers were so friendly. The highlight was Canary Wharf seeing two groups of my supporters within 200m's of each other at the 16.5 mile point and then seeing all my family under the underpass at mile 20.
I was euphoric all the way round - high as a kite, I think they must have been putting something else in that water!
Other high points, crossing Tower Bridge, Cutty Sark, Canary Wharf, The Start.
Low points....the cobbles, no crowd support, no talk amongst the runners because we were so shattered by that point......
I followed the RW subscribers-only sub 4:30 training schedule which I thought was excellent - I didn't miss one session and consequently, felt I ran a perfect race. What wall, I didn't see any wall! I can honestly say that I felt great until the last couple of miles and then it did become hard work but thanks to the most amazing crowd support - I DID IT!
The key to my success, I would say, was following the schedule to the letter and practising everything several times - i.e.. refuelling on the run, running in the top that I would wear on race day so that I knew it didn't rub etc. Everything worked perfectly, I had no nasty surprises, I felt I ran the perfect race - you guys would be proud of me and it was your schedule that helped me get there!
I ran it in 4:45, I think and although this was 15 minutes outside my target, I am thrilled as, as the training progressed, it just became more important for me to get round and enjoy the day, rather than achieve a particular time and that is what I did! I had the time of my life out there. Thank you for providing such a great schedule and allowing me to experience one of the best day's of my life in peak fitness!
I am still buzzing as I sit here and type this to you, sat here in my pyjamas, with my medal, hanging proudly round my neck!
Thank you RW!
