My 2004 London Marathon

How was it for you? - Quotes and pictures from London 04

Time: 3:29

Despite the best intentions and a plan for even running towards my 3:30 target, I ran 10 miles at a pace I couldn't sustain then ground out the remaining miles with gritted teeth in the rain trying not to look at my watch or the mile clocks and get downcast about my deteriorating pace.

It was a great feeling to see the Runners World 3:30 pacer go by somewhere on mile 25 as I knew this meant I was still on course for my target.

I rallied to finish inside 3:29, a Personal Best.

Clearly the message is to forget even-paced running and go like the clappers from the starting gun.
