My 2004 London Marathon

How was it for you? - Quotes and pictures from London 04

Time: 4:48

Best moment - finding my running partner amongst the thousands of other runners at the start.  I was on the loo as the gun went off and never thought I would ever find her!!

Worst moment - losing my running partner 40 seconds before we finished!!  I thought she was behind me but when I looked forward she had just gone ahead, and she was thinking that I was ahead of her!!

Most memorable moment - Meeting 'Vrap' in the queue for the loo, having never met any other forumites before. What a delightful person with a wonderful sense of humour giving warm words of encouragement.  Thank you.

Goal - This was my 3rd London Marathon and I wanted to run 4.59.59 as the previous 2 times I had run in just over 5 hours.  Determined to run/walk 5:1 all the way around.  Finished in 4.48.58 and was ecstatic!!

Training success - Due to following the week by week RW schedule almost to the letter using the 11/min mile pace as my guide.  Had never included speed training before nor hill work and am convinced that this made a great deal of difference.  However, the ultimate success must be the support and encouragement I got from my husband who also ran the marathon (unfortunately he was on the blue start so we never saw each other again until we met up at the Arthritis Care reception - he beat me by 6 mins!!).

Finally, I have learnt so much from all my fellow runners on the forum who give good advice, sensible tips and most importantly a sense of humour!!  So yes, my success is due to RUNNER'S WORLD, MY HUSBAND AND THE FORUM - thank you all!!

How will I be celebrating - slightly x-rated I think! Seriously, we have been joined by our three very supportive children and been out for a good meal.  I will celebrate even more if I am successful in my entry next year which I hope will be accompanied by one from my husband and one from our now 18 year old daughter.  My ambition is that when our youngest reaches 18 (7 years time) the whole family will run together - all 5 of us.
