In short: Fantastic! In full: An uncrowded straight-ish trail winding down from Parsley Hay to Ashbourne. On a trail path so some loose stones in places. Open public access, so a few cyclists also. Well organised, base at Ashbourne for bag storage etc. regular water stations at roughly 3 miles apart. Great finishers medal. Good value for money. Stunning countryside! Also great PB potential too! In short: A great race! In full: Love this race, overall downhill (although it doesn't always feel like it!). Path is a bit narrow in places, but it's good. Will do it again :) Date of review: October 6, 2014
In short: My favorite half marathon race! In full: This is my second time running this race. I was injured last year and was able to defer my place for this year. I ran on Sunday and the weather was perfect; the views amazing and the organisation is second to none. It takes runs like this to make you remember how much fun running can be. Being a gradual downhill route, you just know you will run a PB for a half marathon and it just allows you to enjoy all your hard work. I'll be back next year! Date of review: October 6, 2014
In short: Fast and well organised In full: This was the second time I have run this smashing race.
Its flat or downhill for all 13.1 miles. Its off road with lovely views of the Derbyshire countryside. On the Sunday we were blessed with a sunny day albeit with a little wind, but it was dry.
Marshalls were great and we had water/sweets along the way. Its a smashing atmosphere with a fair number of not so serious runners. Its a good race to go for a PB though - I managed to knock 4 minutes off my previous best event.
Communication and organisation is fantastic, cannot fault it in any way. I'm pleased to say I've already got my form in for 2015.
Well done to everyone involved in this rather special event. Date of review: October 6, 2014
In short: Good PB potential, lovely scenery. Coach to start, but finish not where we had left cars, so we're a bit stranded! Ok as sister had come to meet us. In full: Pre race communication excellent, re coaches etc. However, we left car at Ashbourne leisure centre, where coach picked us all from, and the finish was short drive away, and we had no instructions how to get back to leisure centre. No 13 mile marker, and finish very crowded, benches and people just past finish. Marshalls excellent and friendly, lovely after race recovery snacks, and en route goodies too. I thought there was mention of a goodie bag, but we did not receive one. Showers available afterwards which is always a bonus! Date of review: October 6, 2014
In short: Brilliant first half. Friendly marshalls, welcoming runners, slight descent the whole way In full: My first half. I'm already looking to see what I can do next and planning next years entry. Highly recommended. Only thing missing was the spectators to cheer due to it all being off road, but the cheerful Marshalls encouragement made up for it. Date of review: October 6, 2014
In short: PB almost guaranteed In full: After a awful marathon attempt at the Robin Hood seven days earlier where I had to be helped over the line, I didn't expect a decent time. In fact I did a run and went to the pub the night before. But crikey, this is a fast course and I knocked 5m 26secs off of my HM PB, and managed under 1h30m. Already booked next years event (it's Monday after the Sunday race). Would have liked the results by chip time as I started towards the back and my placing is a bit out on the clock. Best HM yet.
