In short: Brutal and beautiful In full: I knew it would be tough, I knew the terrain and that there would be at least one muddy bog and that it would hurt and in all these respects, I certainly wasn't disappointed! It's taken nearly 2 weeks to recover from my efforts.
In the end I managed 69th and just under 3 hours which I was thrilled with on such a tough course but what a great race. The organisation was excellent including nice things like free parking in local pay & displays nearby, literally hundreds of marshals on the course along with bands, cheering locals and visitors the whole route and so much more including the Cub race (shorter version) and a great deal going on in Seaton the whole weekend not just race day.
If you want an exceptionally tough challenge, try and get a place in this one next year!

In short: Worth doing just for the atmosphere In full: This was my 4th Grizzly, the 3rd having been 12 years ago. I can not recommend this race highly enough, the atmosphere was superb, from the 200 marshals on the course to the spectators cheering us all on, this in itself makes the race a winner. Add in some mud, some hills, some bogs and some shingly beaches and this makes the whole event a very rewarding if tough challenge. To cap it all off, the technical t-shirt at the end was the nicest I have seen handed out at any race. Date of review: March 17, 2014
In short: Fabulous event, Stunning scenery, Mad hills, great organisation In full: What a wonderfully epic event, hills, mud, beach, stunning scenery, great organisation, fabulous marshalls and musicians performing everywhere, but be warned it is also very hard ! Date of review: March 13, 2014
In short: still the greatest race around In full: amazing again what a difference a year makes from baking sun in 2012 to snow and wind in 2013 if you didnt love this race and want to do it again again then you must be crazier than those of us who do. Date of review: March 20, 2013
In short: Epic Race!!! In full: This now rates as one of my all time favourite races! Truly brilliant from start to finish!
I like many missed out on a place in September, so secured my entry via transfer on the FB page. I then upgraded this on the day with no hassle from Cub to full Grizzly, if only all races let you do this!
The course has a real mix of terrain, shingle beaches, roads, farm tracks, open fields, bogs, forests, water crossings, add to this lots of hills, never ending steps up a cliff, a blustery wind and snow, it made for one hell of a challenge.
Great bunch of runners, and the most amazing marshals, including drummers and bagpipes. I could go on but you really have to experience it to appreciate what a great run it is (despite being the longest in terms of time I have ever run, nearly 1.5hrs over my 20 mile PB!).
Well done Axe Valley Runners I will be there next year. Date of review: March 16, 2013
