In short: Much better than last year In full: As others have said, the biggest problem was the fact that the baggage was stored at a different location from the finish. If you had done the race before, finding it was easy but first timers would have struggled. Friendly marshals, great flapjack at the end and the goody bag, hoody and free photos were good value. The run itself was harder than it looked, no big climbs or descents but undulating throughout the whole event. Well done to the organisers for changing the route from last year, running whilst creating in diesel fumes from HGVs was not pleasant. Date of review: December 1, 2016
In short: Well organised and friendly In full: The main issue is that the start cum baggage drop, finish and car park are in three different locations each about 1/2 mile apart. As this race is likely to run in inclement weather, as this one was, it means you are walking around in your running gear getting cold very quickly. Date of review: November 30, 2016
In short: Great organisation and lovely marshals. An undulating course particularly the first couple of miles but plenty scenery to look at. Slight course change this year to avoid busy road. Overall great race. My second time and I'll be back next year. Date of review: November 26, 2016
In short: Tough run/great atmosphere In full: First time at Clowne. Route: Predictably windy and steep, some monster hills. Atmosphere: Great atmosphere. Large enough numbers for there to be other runners nearby at all times - which helped when the locals were hardly out in force. But great marshalling throughout, everyone in the club must be out there and they were super enthusiastic even on a pretty grim day. Organisation: All good except for the very end. post-race it was very hard to find the way back to the car park. Value: Brilliant. I don't know how they can do it for the fee. Nice hoodie. Would I Recommend? Totally, everyone in the north midlands should be supporting this race. Date of review: November 26, 2016
In short: The things I'll do for some Flapjack In full: Generally well organised event that certainly had a 'club' feel about it rather than that of a mass commerical event. Challenging route as there's no break from the hills, they just keep coming and coming and coming right up until the last mile or so that is...yeah...uphill.
Wasn't keen on running with the traffic on open roads and there was very very little support from the locals (the weather was horrific though!).
Amazing when you finish and the first thing you see is a table full of flapjacks and cakes and smiling faces telling you to take whatever you fancy - then putting on your nice warm hoody.
BIG problem with the start and finish line not being at the same place though - our bags (with our warm, dry clothes!) were back at the start line which *should* have been about a 10 - 15 min walk away, but with absolutely no marshalls or signs or directions given, we, like a lot of people we spoke to, found ourselves wandering around Clowne following other lost runners and having to ask locals - it took us almost 30 minutes to get back, we we're frozen to the bone. It was then the same situation getting back to the car park, which for us was back up near where we finished - but if you don't know the area at all it's not the easiest task in the world.
Overall a good race that I am glad I did, but there was nothing special about it to lure me back again :)
In short: Great race, well organised In full: New start worked well, just a little crowded at Race HQ for number collection. Friendly, great goodie bag. Wonderful, challenging course. Date of review: November 26, 2016
In short: Enjoyed this very much, afterwards. In full: A friendly race on a good scale. Excellently marshalled. Did get lost returning to start from finish... signs might have helped there! Thank you, very much enjoyed my day. Date of review: November 26, 2016
