In full: Very tough course and conditions this year did not help. Still, it's all very doable even for road runners especially if marathon training. No mile markers so that can play havoke mentally when you really want to stop.
Shame to focus on being a training run for those preparing for a marathon but given the time of year it's always going to attract a lot with that in mind and for those I would recommend it. Respect to those you raced it in it's own right - you're tough as boots Date of review: February 28, 2011

In short: Brilliant as always In full: Although this is a tough race, you should do it as a training run for a spring Marathon. It is "tough but doable". Great for a nice time-on-feet LSR
The organization is good, the scenery is fabulous and the marshals and water station helpers are great.
This was my 2nd time and just a beautiful as I remember. How often do you get to run through scenery like this?
Lots of mud this year, different from 2009 when it was bone dry. I've got through both times in road shoes but granted I'm not going at speed!

In short: A tough run; plenty of hills and loads of mud this year. The hill at the end is "special" Date of review: February 27, 2011

In short: Very tough, hilly, muddy, wet run. In full: Very tough, hilly, muddy & wet run. Challenging 21 miles over Cannock Chase. Had to walk up the switch backs & hill at the end. Good training run if doing Marathon. Date of review: February 27, 2011

In short: Never walked after 400 yards before, but in the end I was glad I did as I was able to run all but the hills at midway and the hill at the end... In full: Distant views in the cool spring sunshine, a lovely grind up a valley at about 14 miles with a sparkling stream below. A couple of fords or stepping stones if you preferred, and a smart long sleeved T-shirt for just turning up. Hardly a car in sight. I'd wanted to do this one for some years, it is tough and I probably left it 10 years too late, but still very much enjoyed it. Date of review: March 17, 2008

In short: A nightmare - but a great challenge In full: Enetered this with far too much over confidence both in my fitness and ability. A lack of respect for the punishing terrain coupled with far too fast start meant the last 8 miles was a nightmare of epic proportions. I'd certainly do this again so I can say I've beaten it. In short: owwww - switch backs a killer...just as I was enjoying the race the agony began at 10 miles! Beautiful run but tough..the switchbacks wear you down for whats coming later but the marshalls are lovely, so friendly. Sheer guts and detemination needed b Date of review: March 9, 2008
