In short: Quite Good North Run !!
In full: A massive event which in some ways meant it was too overcrowded especially at the start and trying to track down my folks at the finish!!
Well worth doing though as it's the worlds biggest and most prestigious Half Marathon so its good to have on your running CV.
However I was put off by the sheer numbers 50,000 was too many to cram into one start area. Great support though and glad to have done it and got the t-shirt ( and the medal ! ).

In short: Would be a good race without trying to get around slow runners
In full: Badly organised start - couldn't get into my penn and ended up behind slower runners - found it hard jumping on and off the pavemment to get round them - and I'm no elitist runner.

In short: Improvements made from last few years with, it seems more on the cards.
In full: It's the GNR. What would it be with a flawless run from start to finish with no slow bits? Pens worked out better for me as a mid order runner. It also seems next year they will be asking for certified times for whih pen you get put in.

In short: Too many "non-club" runners at head of the field
In full: I felt that there were too many charity runners at the very front of the field which caused obstructions at the start. I am not elitist and I do commend all those who do a fantastic job for their respective charities, however I felt this was a bit of a danger. You could see the panic in some of their faces as hordes of 6 minute milers were charging past.

In short: Could be better
In full: The start was better than last year but could be improved by staggering much more based on certificated times from other or same event(s). We got inside the fences at 10.00hrs (latest time permissible) and still had to wait 1 hr before crossing the start line. If the groups of runners were smaller ( about 1000) and went off every 1-2 minutes I think it would be better - as in the Cape Argus cycle race in Cape Town which has about 35,000 participants, all on bikes of course.

In short: Start line dramas soon forgotten - great race
In full: The start is a faff and drama - but then again, that's always going to be the case with 50k people getting ready to run. First 3 miles slow due to congestion - and I presume a great deal of self-flatery when stating estimated finishing time!!!! Support from the sidelines fantastic as always!!

In short: the new pen system worked well but still a lot of people lied about times and were in the wrong plce which caused problems for people later
