In short: Was so good I decided to register for 2011
In full: This was not just my first marathon but my first ever running event. My friend persuaded me to take part so I spent 3 months training hard for the daunting distance of 26.2 miles.
The event itself was extremely well organised. Plenty of marshalls, facilities, water stops not to mention cracking support from the people of Nottingham.
The first half of the marathon involved a few steady inclines (not exactly hills) and I made the mistake of tackling this stage too fast. The second half was completely flat but by 19 miles I was so drained and managed to drag myself across the finish in a respectable debut time of 3:55.
I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to try out a marathon but can't afford/get into London. The support was fantastic and the other runners all help you along the way.
If I had a slight criticism then I would say a lot of the second half of the course is in the countryside and thus short of support. These stages are the times when you could do with some much needed encouragement from the crowd but like I said it is only a minor criticism!
Overall a great event.

In short: Nice race, especially the first half marathon.
In full: The first half of the race takes you through the city and past some good landmarks. There are a few sharp(ish) hills to keep you on your toes. After about mile 12 it is pretty much pancake flat. There is a bit less going on for the second half of the race, but I would take flat roads over a nice view especially at the later stages of the marathon!

All in all it was a well organised race with good local support throughout. I will be coming back this year to support my wife in her first half marathon, but won't be running myself.

In short: Expensive for what it is, but a nice weekend away
In full: Pros
Good race village
Events for the whole family
Plenty of toilets (at start and managed to not queue on route)
Good crowd support (although only because it was a nice day in the park)

Cons
Messy start, delayed, without communication, and barriers blocking people out.
All the food vans in the race village were junk. Sweets, burgers, doughnuts, friend food. Had to walk miles to get something half healthy.
Could get out the finish. Got my medal etc, then went through the tunnel to the village. Crowded with people looking out for finishers that wouldn't let me though! Like I have the energy to get through a 10 deep crowd that won't budge?!

In short: Worth the Mars bar
In full: My 2nd marathon, I swear it was longer than Edinburgh. Bit disappointed at my time, over 5 hours but my friendly runners around me said sometimes you take under 5 and sometimes over. Good organisation, easy parking, goody bag was ok but didnt find my Mars bar until I got home. Would have been nice to get a tee shirt though.
It was a bit wierd when thousands of half marathon runners finished and you carried on along with about 8 other people !

In short: Nice to have starting pens this year.
In full: As always very well organised from start to finish with good water stations, plenty of marshalls and a well ran finish. Some of the paths are getting a bit bumpy though, especially round by the 5 mile mark (the council may want to do some repairs).

In short: Good Run, good organisation in the main, great atmosphere
In full: Really enjoy my local festival of running but need to get some organisation in place for leaving the car park at the Meadows end was chaos this year and not fair on local residents
