In short: Lovely hills + scenery
In full: I really enjoyed this race, it was everything I hoped it would be, scenic, a little hilly and memorable.
The downsides were few, but among them was the last couple of miles to the finish. Once you crossed the river and could see the stadium psychologically you were ready to finish, so it was quite a kick when you realised that you had to run past the stadium, out onto a road, round the other side and then into the stadium from the opposite side.... my running partner was nearly in tears at this point... I'm sure there must a better way of managing the last couple of miles from the bridge....
The food at the end was very welcome and it certainly hit the spot.
The Baxters goody bag was excellent, however I was shocked to see that some people had just 'dumped' theirs at the side of the road! I'm sure they could have politely said 'no thank you' when they were handed one, rather than it go to waste... shame on them !

In short: got to do it again
In full: i thought last year was a one off with the weather being perfect but again it we got the right conditions although when we got on the coach to go up to the start the heavens opened but by the time we got to the start it had cleared away. out of the 22 marathons that i have done this has to be my favourite. all in all a great weekend the journey up, the marathon itself where everthing went to plan was going for under 3.30 ran 3.27 and a few drinks after it. great stuff

In short: A hard course for my first marathon
In full: This race starts in the middle of nowhere, and develops into an undulating run with some tricky hills at the start. Excellently marshalled and very challenging for the novice, but a great feeling when you hit the line.

In short: My first marathon....but not my last!
In full: Full marks to organisers! Everyone really friendly. The uphills are a shock at times, but for a first marathon you can be sure your second is likely to be a new PB if you pick a flat route!

In short: Don't be fooled by the downhill! Let the scenery distract you from the pain...
In full: An excellent race in a stunning setting. Very well organised and friendly - wanted to dance to the ceilidh band at the saturday pasta party, but decided that probably wasn't the best preparation!
Tough course - all that downhill makes for really, really, really sore legs, so not one for fast times, but well worth doing for all that!
