In short: Excellent organisation and completely different In full: I thought the marshalls were joking when they pointed at the groin-high stream... but they weren't!! Great race - really enjoyed the atmosphere despite the low turn-out. Excellent organisation - loads of stewards - probably more of them than runners! Date of review: March 4, 2013

In short: Nice, scenic route with good mix of surfaces - really enjoyable! In full: A beautiful day for my first Lancaster half-marathon. Really enjoyed route with some lovely views of the river and surrounding countryside. More trail sections than I had anticipated, some of which were a bit muddy but managed fine in road shoes and this added to my enjoyment of the race! Nice "local" feel to race with sensible number of runners for type of route. Well marshalled and friendly support from smallish number of spectators. Track finish was fun and I thought the medal was better than most (Mars bar was welcome too!). Only negatives were the slightly chaotic organisation prior to the start, poor signs to direct you from the car park (the one across the road from the supermarket) to the race HQ/start, and the long toilet queues. What a co-incidence that ALL the toilets in Asda were "out of order" on race day (not the fault of the race organisers I am sure)!! Date of review: November 10, 2012

In short: Great flat course with one hill, but organisation was lacking In full: This was my second half and I would definitely come back because the course is great. Pretty much flat with one gradual hill ascending to steepish at mile 7-8. Got a PB. Beautiful weather for it too. However, I wasn't that impressed with the organisation. I'd registered online but the information via email was very brief - I only found the course route online because I know someone who's done the race before. On race day, the marshal on the car park a) couldn't direct me to the sports centre, b) advised me to leave spare kit etc in the car as he didn't think there would be enough lockers. There were lots of lockers! Then those of us who'd registered before the day were asked to queue, while people signing up on the day could bypass it (lots of muttering about this). While the race itself was well-marshalled, the pre-race briefing was inaudible. Also, no roads or paths were closed off, so at one point several of us were stuck behind a cyclist on a narrow muddy track, and there was a section on an A-road without any barrier between runners and traffic. It's a small race and it felt as if the organisers assumed that everyone would be local and would know where to go. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a first race - but it's a good race!

In short: Disappointing - won't be back In full: Where the organisers get town/rural from is beyond me as much of this was trail running which doesnt suit everyone.
In terms of this being a city half the atmosphere and support was pathetic. Also a substandard medal and mars bar doesnt really make me want to come back next year - lesson learnt. Date of review: November 6, 2012

In short: Really enjoyed this one not sure it is falt as the organisers claim though In full: This made a real change from the big city half marathons I tend to run. I was a bit anxious as I thought it might be a bit serious and I would be at the back. It was friendly and welcoming and I enjoyed running off road through the mud. It is well organised and marshalled and they give lots of encouragement.
I managed a PB which is always good Date of review: November 5, 2012

In short: My first attempt, realy enjoyed it. In full: This was my first half marathon and I found it hard for the last 4 miles (my own fault for not training hard enough). The organisation was excellent, car parking was easy, weather was great, plenty of marshall, spectators and water stops. I like the medal but would have liked a T-shirt but at £17 it was still a bargain!! I'vr now got a time to beat which should spur me on a bit. Date of review: November 5, 2012

In short: Great race- very well organised In full: I really like this race. Perfect weather today - great course which is relatively flat but has an undulating section and a small off road bit - so lots of variety! Maybe not th fastest course as a few very tight turns but very enjoyable. Organisation was spot on. Definitely in the calendar for next year. Date of review: November 4, 2012
