In short: Continues to be a fantastic multi-distance event In full: Ran the half this year (getting old). Great course. Nice scenery. Parking easy. Large race HQ. Will be back next year. Date of review: October 31, 2016
In short: Fabulous Day In full: i did the 50k. organisation was great. 50k was well marked for a ultra event. marshalls and stations were plentiful , cheerful and very welcoming. atmosphere from other runners and walkers was great. scenery was out of this world. overall a brill event will definitely do this again. In short: A very well organised Trail run In full: My second running in the 33k and the signage was much improved. I didn't get lost like last year.
The organisation was excellent, with ample parking, efficient number collection, men's urinal to ease queues for the portaloos and efficient and encouraging marshalls.
The feed stations were at regular intervals, some with orange slices, bananas, cake and bread and butter pudding.
I was never out of sight of other runners which was reassuring, as there is nothing worse than being on your own, and not sure whether you are on the right road. I will be back again next year, all being well. Date of review: August 18, 2016
In short: Scenic, hilly and fun In full: Did the 21k route, it was very scenic and enjoyable. The water stations frequency was great on a relatively hot day. The start was a little messy with walkers in the way early on and a bit of a queue formed at Old Sarum. The only other niggle was some poor signage at the Harnham gate to the Cathedral resulting in some runners going off in the wrong direction. I'll go again next year I hope. In short: Hot, hilly with a pub stop on the way! In full: First time running the 54321 and I chose the marathon distance. As a mainly road / hard surface runner I knew it would be hard day out, and wasn't disappointed. The views were beautiful, the runners were friendly especially when the different distances merged and split. The route was well signposted (follow your distance and if unsure ask), though you can also carry a map or download the route to a watch.
Race organisation was excellent, parking was easy, number collection simple. Good number of toilets and able to buy coffee before the start.
Marshalls were very friendly and helped fill bottles and cups to keep us hydrated on a VERY hot day. Lots of aid stations, but most of the earlier ones only had water, so be prepared to carry any drink / food you need. There are also a few pubs on the route, so I did stop for a pint of coke and a packet of crisps! Absolute heaven.
I really enjoyed the day out and will definitely be back again, the value of this marathon in comparison to others is brilliant and I love the medal and t-shirt (you can buy it as an extra and as the race was much cheaper than others I run I did buy it and very glad too!). There was also an ice-cream van and burger van at the end do buy food from without having to walk anywhere. Perfect organisation.
Thanks for a brilliant marathon. Date of review: August 15, 2016
In short: Scenic, sunny but challenging! In full: I'm not by nature a trail runner, this was my first trail 1/2 marathon and I'm still recovering from injury in March.
That said I gave it a go and was treated some some beautiful views I wouldn't miss. It is a tough run and I ran a large proportion of it with no-one else in sight. The signage is great all the way up to the city where the signage was poor/stolen!
Organisers are great, volunteers are very supportive and friendly, medal is nice and heavy and there was a good atmosphere at the end.
One to do if you fancy pushing yourself......and discovering muscles you didn't realise you had :-) Date of review: August 15, 2016
In short: Smooth operation, well signed and great marshals with an amazing finish area In full: Ok I'm biased as I live in Salisbury :) But this is the first time I've been able to run this event, yes it's not flat but the hills are all runnable the route takes you into private estates normally closed to the public, really well run, great marshals, numerous water stations and a party atmosphere at the finish line. In short: Very Challenging In full: Unlike last year where i did this without much prep especially hill work and was crucified this year did lots of training. But got blitzed by the heat so suffered still beat last year but would rate this as a beast of a marathon the hills are very challenging but the views are awesome! HIghly recommend it if your a bit bored a wanted a challenging marathon. Date of review: October 27, 2015
In short: Really well organised and fantastically enjoyable summer distance run In full: Wife and self did the 33k - have wanted to run the event for a few years as it looked fantastic, and really pleased we finally made it. Not disappointed in any way - well worth the early rise and 120 mile drive. wonderful scenery, great route, orbiting around that wonderful cathedral spire, winking at you every so often, poking above the hills and fields and eventually drawing you back in to the finish. I found the water and refreshment stations excellent, more frequent than advertised, except after the final 33k split. Welcome fruit, cake and jelly babies etc at appropriate points. I was worried about route finding, but we both found it extremely well marked and had no problems, even back in Salisbury for the final kms - very surprised at the preceding reports otherwise. Sometimes one errant runner can lead a fair few followers astray on this type of route - just need to keep an eye out. Distances were made quite clear as approximate before hand. Great facilities and organisation at start and finish - just right. Thank you to all the organisers and supporters for a fab day out from Bedfordshire. Will be back, hopefully for the 42k next time. In short: It may be overused but really, a good soul lifting run. In full: Just LOVE this event and fourth time there to do the 42k. It is a very special run with a very good atmosphere and the marshals were brilliant and kept us topped up with water. I can find no fault with this event, sorry. Love it and will keep going back as long as my legs, body and mind will allow. Thanks Ludo and the gang. Date of review: August 14, 2015
