In short: A Muddy Race
In full: I was returning home from Saudi and thought why not give it a go as it happened to be in my backyard.

It was certainly a different experience to say the least, am so used to running on flat surface here in Riyadh, Saudi that doing the hills certainly tested my calves and thighs, they were so sore after the race that I could not even climb stairs for at least couple of days.

The views were fantastic but yep agree that some places were so steep that i was not even sure that i could climb down, let alone run.

Anyway all in all fanatic venue, good organisation, a big thank to Tom and his team (organiser/volunteers) for their wonderful efforts, without them this would not be possible.

In short: Not as tough as you would think!
In full: Reading the reviews from last year, I was concerned that this race might be a half marathon version of the 'Jack & Jill 5 Mile' event near Hassocks in West Sussex, which basically involves running up and down the Downs twice (very steep long climbs). However, this course wasn't too bad in terms of hills (my first half marathon [first started running 6 weeks before]and my time was just over 2 hours). I felt that most of the course was downhill and the inclines were generally no greater then 50 m in length. Obviously if it hadn't have been raining so much in the days leading up to the race, it would have been easier.

Its a good first test for a trail runner (I would say), but certainly run the first half of the race slower, as the course does start to effect you from around the 9 mile mark on.

In saying all of this, it really depends on what kind of courses you run in practice, as to how hard you will find this event i.e. if you've only been running on the flat (roads), you're probably going to struggle to get a good time at Milland.

To finish on a positive, you get a very nice medal at the end, and the whole event is run very well in beautiful surroundings! Very enjoyable!

In short: One of my favourites
In full: The mud made it much harder and I missed not having the steps and the small ford across a forest path.
Enjoyed my pint and rump steak and fries in the Rising Sun in the village afterwards.
Definetely the best way to spend a Sunday in August!

In short: Very challenging course.
In full: Very challenging course with lots to think about on the way round. Much more enjoyable than a normal half marathon. extreme mud slopes made it more entertaining! Thanx to the very excited lady marshall on the 8 mile marker!

In short: hills and mud - what more could you ask for on one of the best trail runs in the south?
In full: good to see the course reverting to its original direction, far preferred it compared to last year but have never known there to be so much mud at this time of year - more cross country than trail at times.
well signed and great marshals, thank you liss runners
liked the small course alterations which removed some of the road sections and the steps.
see you next year.

In short: Mud and hills made it tough and interesting
In full: This was my first "competitive" race. I had done plenty of training with similar ascents/descents, but this was tougher than expected, mainly I think due to the mud. It probably didn't help that I got carried away and ran too fast at the start as well (20 minutes faster in the 1st half than the 2nd!). Enjoyed it though. It was well organized with clear direction markers on the trail, regular water stations and friendly cheerful marshals (I thought they ALL did a good job, no singling out the lady at 8 miles ;-). I'm definitely interested in doing this again!

In short: TOUGH!
In full: Tough but if an old girl like me can do it you can too! Very hard cross country course not a trail run. With the wet weather, the course was treacherous; last year was easy in comparison. (but last year I said it was the hardest thing I had ever done!). Thank you to the lady marshall at mile 8/9 (?) who was very encouraging to everyone - just what you need. I will be back..... I think....!

In short: A trial of endurance........
In full: A race must for anyone aspiring to be a trail runner, even for a day! The course is set in beautiful country with enough undulations and narrow trails to satisfy anyone looking for a challenging test over varied terrain. The recent rains made for a muddier course this year, with some of the descents a really slippery affair...ouch, but the views on top were well worth it. The organisation by Liss was again first class, with very clear signage around the course and excellent marshalling. The event felt low key and friendly with tea and cakes, but ran like clockwork. Well done to all involved. I have to admit I was glad to finish this year, running 14 minutes slower than last year, with a mile less to run?!!! However, will be back next year to try again.
Thanks again everyone for a great race.
