In short: Great if you like trail running or want to test yourself. Mix of abilities and friendly. Super organisation In full: My first half marathon and it was great, but I'm glad I did some significant hill training before hand!
The first 2-3 miles are gentle with an extended downhill and then it becomes either up or down (again some extended ones - not used to that as I've trained on shorter, steeper hills).
Overall it's a great challenge with supporters / cheerers at multiple points through the course. Water stations (4 or 5 of them) also had gels to hand out (which I thought generous and useful).
I spent an afternoon there a few weeks before to familiarise myself with the course (roughly speaking) and I'm glad I did, because it would have been a shock otherwise.
Thank you to all the great staff, marshalls who created a friendly, happy vibe (loads of families, groups, mixed abilities etc).
I would thorougly recommend it and am definitely going next year. Date of review: July 15, 2015
In short: This is a fantastic challenging small half marathon in the beautiful surrey hills In full: Brilliant stuff from Nikki and the ETL team. Excellent, cheery marshalls and helpers all round. LOVED the jelly babies at all the water stops. Such a special race, will keep coming back. Love Denbies for the start/finish too. Thanks for the free photos this year! Date of review: July 14, 2015
In short: Challenging run, lots of hills, fantastic organisation and encouraging marshals, fruit was nice at the finish nice t-shirt but but would have liked a medal for recognition as it's such a challenging course. Date of review: July 14, 2015
In short: Challenging but fun course, well organised, very enjoyable In full: The course is definitely not a PB option, but has been well designed with some challenging but not brutal hills and lots of downhill recovery. Brilliantly and enthusiastically marshalled (which is a must as it would be very easy to get lost in the woods) and small enough to make it a relaxed race, e.g. enough loos available to avoid five-minutes-before-start-and-still-in-the-queue stress! The free beer at the end is a great touch and the t-shirts are well designed. One small improvement would be bottles of water not cups at one or two stations, but I appreciate that raises the likelihood of littering on a really beautiful course. Having a 10am start on a hotter July day could be an issue, but this year the slight drizzle made it very reasonable temperature-wise. Keen to come back in 2016! Date of review: July 14, 2015
In short: Amazing race, one of my favourites. In full: It is a tough route but it makes it all the more rewarding. Great organisation and marshals. The views are incredible and a great venue to start from. Would def recommend. Always enjoy the sing along to start. Date of review: July 13, 2015
In short: A challenging well planned route! In full: Really enjoyed this race. It was very tough with many challenging hills to tackle. The whole event was organised perfectly and all ran like clockwork a totally stress free enjoyable race! Date of review: July 13, 2015
In short: Al that for a Badger's Bum and a Beer In full: Yesterday morning after the lung busting first three uphill miles, we turned off to start the zig zag up to Norbury Woods, and the guy running by me looked up and saw runners ahead on the helter-skelter that lay ahead and he turned and panted 'I had better say my Hail Mary's now!' But once you have run up you are then in the woods twisting along the trails over a very clever course. At the end there is another helter-skelter down out of the woods on the other side from where you entered. Then back to Denbies for a fantastic finish and rewardewd with revitalising fruit, a t-shirt which this year has rather wittily given us 13 Badgers and a Badger Bum for the .1 and to round off the goodies a bottle of beer. So I ran all that for a bit of a badgers bum and a beer! But heck I had a blast! As ever the marshalls and organisation were outstanding with special mention to the exuberant lady marshall by the exit from the woods, she ra-ra'd us all in style. Well done to Nicky and all the ETL Badger sett another fabulous event executed with aplomb. Date of review: July 13, 2015
