In short: Good route, well organised only thing that disappointed me was the cheap looking medal. Date of review: December 3, 2012

In short: The second year of this marathon and apart from the A20 a great course. In full: Marathons and main roads don’t normally go together very well (not for runners anyway) so when I first noticed the ‘A20’ in the title of the A20 Path ‘n’ Downs Marathon in Hollingbourne just outside Maidstone, Kent it didn’t seem very appealing. But then neither did the Luton Marathon (with all due respect to people living in Luton) which was the only other marathon option for today. So to help me decide which one to go for I read all about the marathons on the relevant websites. In the end I opted for the Velocity Event’s marathon as it mentioned running along quite undulating country lanes and over the downs as well as paths alongside the A20 – I thought the contrast would be interesting to say the least. I arrived at the race HQ in plenty of time for the 9.00am start and unlike most race HQ’s, which can often be very shabby places, I was immediately impressed with this one as it was the 4 star Mercure Hotel – all very posh. The other good thing was that the start and finish was just on the other side of the A20 with a bag drop tent and even better a burger bar (for post marathon carb replenishment of course). - If you would like to read more then check out my full blog here at http://60in60at60.com/2012/11/18/m47-a20-path-n-downs/ Date of review: November 23, 2012

In short: Stunning views In full: Great scenery, great pitstops with jaffa cakes, flat coke (very welcome in the 2nd half), sweets, friendly marshals and a grub van at the end. Hilly course on tarmac - some great downhill running! Decent medal at the end and the use of the hotel was a bonus Not too keen on runing along the A20 path but the rest of the roads are quiet and very scenic. And hey! You can always plug into your ipod along the A20 path... All in all a well-organised, well-marshalled event with a small, friendly field of like minded runners. Date of review: November 21, 2012

In short: The marathon was fun. Lovely route over the downs, quiet lanes were great. Running along the A20 not quite as nice, but we all knew the route. Friendly all the way around, runners and marshals. Well stocked feed stations. In full: Only small suggestion for improvement would be a bit more thought put into the medal, it was generic and you had to look hard to see if it was for the marathon. Thank you to all those who gave up their Sunday morning to put the race on. Date of review: November 19, 2012

In short: Tough course with a couple of long hills through pleasant scenery helped by lovely weather. Great location for HQ and the organisation couldn't be faulted, although no T-shirts seemed to be on offer. Date of review: November 19, 2012

In short: Well organised event In full: Lovely weather helped make this a great run around rural Kent lanes. Some tough hills to test you with some great downhills too! Very well organised, great marshalling and regular aid stations with gels, mars, jellybabies, coke, marshmallows, jaffa cakes - plenty to choose from! The burger van at the finish was doing good business and meant people were hanging around for a while to cheer other runners in which added to the very sociable atmosphere. Would definitely come back another year. The only thing I would say is that the medal wasn't anything special for the entry fee - personally I'd rather pay #30 and get a nice custom made medal than pay #25 and get a generic one - not really a criticism - more a suggestion! Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to all the volunteers involved - we couldn't do these races without you! Date of review: November 18, 2012

In full: What an awesome event the full marathon was !! Only decided on Friday to do it and am so happy I did. Very surprised at just how lovely the scenery was...just the bits by the road were abit grim but short lived. I loved it...i loved the extra bits at the water stations...marshmallows, choccie bars and coca cola !! That was a lovely extra special touch. Some gorgeous country lanes en route with very little traffic. A couple of monster hills but so what...what goes up must come down. A brilliant event and one to put in your diary for next year but also fab weather helped. Date of review: November 18, 2012
