In short: A fine run up and down the sea front, although it was hard to carry on when the half marathoners finished! In full: This was a well organised, well marshaled marathon. The course is mainly flat, down south to below the Pleasure Beach, up past the Hilton, north of Bispham, back down to the Hilton and repeat. The repetition was a little hard to keep the motivation going, but the support and fine conditions helped.
Would consider running it again...the course may be different when the sea front improvements are completed. PB too!

In short: I found the organisation fine, the marshalls and people manning the drinks stations supportive, even the visitors to Blackpool were supportive. The course modifications this year made the run a bit easier. I'll be back in 2011. Date of review: April 15, 2010

In short: What are all the moaners whining about? A fun race!!!!! In full: Let me start with one negative. This race is no London or New York which seems to have come as a surprise to some of those who have rated it. It seems to escape the thoughts of some that the big races have 50-60 times the number of marathon runners and therefore income as this race. What Blackpool achieved on a fraction of the cost (especially full road closure) is admirable. In terms of scenery, you may not get Tower Bridge or the Empire State but Blackpool Tower, piers and pleasure beach are fun enough (what do you get in the Great North Run and yet noone moans?)
I would gladly have paid more for a better medal and T-shirt but the achievement is the key thing. The only real moan I would have is around toilet facilities, both not enough at ther start and no clarity as to where they were en route. That is easily fixed though.
The marathon was a whole new experience. As a 7 time marathon runner, I have only ever run big ones with thousands around me. The more intimate nature of this event brought a different challenge and gave you room to run. If you want a pb, it is on the cards here. There wasn't a 6 deep crowd along the route but so what? There were some great supporters like the family at around 24 miles with a little boy and girl giving out jelly babies and around 17 with a family giving out oranges. That's to say nothing about the 20 odd 16 year old girls who gave me a cheer when they got off their coach! Those who complain about the crowds, ask yourself, what did you give them? I waved and applauded the crowd and got a warm reception in return, especially from the owner of the tatoo shop who cheered me and then spotted me on the return leg and did so again.
I intend to return and would encourage others to come. It is more of a club race than a London but what is wrong with that. It may not be ideal for a first time runner as you don't have the big crowd but the field has a wide variety of standards so it is not to be feared. Thanks guys and gals! In short: Excellent event and very enjoyable In full: Third time for me in Blackpool and yet again, I throughly enjoyed tha race. The organisation was excellent, there was brilliant support from the marshalls, and excellent crowd support around the start and finish areas. I would certainly recommend it, and will definitely be back! Date of review: April 14, 2010

In short: Good course friendly marshalls. Nice to run traffic free. PB for me so no quibbles In full: Only 2 niggles or observations. Firstly if there was only one way circuit through race HQ would speed up throughput. Secondly why no certification for marathon as half had it. Very good run otherwise plenty of water and marshalls as far as I was concerned. Couldnt fault weather etc or start. Toilets maybe could do with more but did not bother me. Tee shirt should be technical these day so put up price to cover them. Well done to all who organised this event Date of review: April 14, 2010

In short: Good Race worth doing for a quick time In full: Very good value for money, fairly surprised about a few "little" climbs but mainly a very flat course definatly PB course, I managed to break a 4 year old PB finally. Shutting the main road off in Blackpool should be applauded as this must of took some doing main races would just shut one lane of, or put you on the pavement. People who moan about the scenery would probably moan about the scenery in New York, Antigua, Austrailer, etc. At the end of the day you ran down past the Tower, down towards the Pleasure Beach and up to north Blackpool and back along the sea wall, don't get hung up on areas where support was sparce, how many people do you normally get on training runs??? just get through it and feed off the crowd where they are...
Very Good Race, see you next year!!!

In short: Good course on closed roads up and down the main high street of Blackpool In full: A lot of negative comments about the organisation and facilities that i just did not experience. There was plenty of everything and the local population gave support along the way.
This course is fast but not easy as there are undulations and quiet stretches away from the Prom but another PB for me and i would consider the 5 hour + drive to do it all again Date of review: April 14, 2010
