In short: Good course, great atmosphere In full: This was my first point-to-point race, liked the contrast between the Wirral and Liverpool. Great supporters, particularly when coming out of the tunnel. The section in Sefton Park unfortunately didn't really attract spectactors, which made it tougher as this was where most runners were starting to really tire. Still, of course not the organiser's fault.
There were some hills but generally a flat course. I did Chester Marathon last year and found this one to be less challenging. Date of review: October 14, 2012

In short: Great scenery throughout, 1 killer hill, loved it. In full: Really well organised and the volunteers were superb. Good facilities and reasonable value for money despite the cost. Date of review: October 14, 2012

In short: Ignoring the start delay this was a very well organised race. In full: the atmosphere was great through the majority of the course. If there was a way to liven up the park sections it would have been brilliant. Date of review: November 29, 2011

In short: Some teething issues but overall loved it In full: Bit of a problem at the start caused by public not respecting the course markers, communication of this was very poor which led to a half hour delay. Once underway however the race was fantastic, loads of support, loads of aid stations, good scenery (yes, in Liverpool!) and the atmosphere coming out of the tunnel & round the city centre was truly staggering Date of review: November 17, 2011

In short: Amazing Support In full: This was my first marathon, and although I missed out on my 4hr target by 5 seconds!, except my wedding day and the birth of my 2 girls it was probably the best experience of my life.
Why? Well it was not just the amazing views, (especially along the New Brighton/Egremont Promenade), and the fantastic cameraderie between the runners; it was the support which was amazing beyond belief and took the whole event to the next level!
I know some people have said Sefton Park was a little monotonous and certainly a route back to the city via Otterspool and along the front would be an improvement. But really, this is the first running of this race, and except for there being no communication to the runners in the starting gates as to the reason of the delay, everything about the organisation was excellent.
Far too challenging to be a PB course but will defo do again next September.
Thanks Liverpool. Date of review: November 7, 2011

In short: As said by all, the tunel exit is a life time memory In full: The training had not gone to plan, but the course was very forgiving which enabled me to achieve a new P.B. 3:32.20. This is a truly enjoyable marathon, ideal for a first marathon. This is a city marathon(look and learn Edinburgh), which was well organised and the atmosphere is the best i have ever had. The tunnel is not as hard as you think and worth all of the effort when you hear the drums. When comming out of the tunnel the experience is a moment that will live with me forever. This distracted me enough that i did not realise i had climbed Upper Parliament street. Some runners have complained about the loops in the park, but they must remember that this is the point when the going gets tough, so train better for next time. The crouds along all of the route were excellent, but the last two miles were extra special. Finally, i can not praise all volunteers enough, they were excellent. Alan well done and i will be back in two years. P.S. can i also thank Richard for the seminars, which have helped develop my running. Date of review: November 2, 2011

In short: Brilliant experience. Maybe a bit tough for a first-timer, but the atmosphere was great. In full: Always said 'Never' - until RL decided to put a marathon on in town...so I had no excuse - no travel, no ballot, just turn up on the day!
Hardest race I've ever done (obviously) but heartened to see that some 'proper' runners thought it was a bit tough - so that made me feel better.
It's all been said about the delayed start - couldn't be helped, but just needed a bit more communication to the pens.
As with previous comments - tunnel exit was amazing, water stations were very supportive, finish line folk were lovely and the marshall who helped me out when I stopped was really kind.
Spectator support on both sides of the water was great (wouldn't have expected anything less!), especially all the High-5-ing kids and the finish along the Strand.
OK - so maybe I have rose-tinted spectacles, but it was a great experience for me. Plus you have the fact that there's a real personal commitment by RL to make this work, and you do feel that any negative feedback is being actively looked at with a view to improving in 2012.
I should really flag NO to the Do It Again question... but never say 'never again' (just not next year!) Date of review: October 31, 2011
