In short: I was very tired!! In full: Great small event - sadly lots of cars, inevitable at this time of year. As a visitor I'd have liked a few more signs/route markers in the last three miles, but all the organisers and marshalls did a great job. However, had a great time running with two islanders - a very nice woman and an Irishman who ran this as his first half of 1:52. Well done mate! I'll do it next year if the family holiday fits........Leek next week
Cheers
Ken

In short: Hilly and horrible In full: As my first half marathon, this was a real challenge. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the hill profiles before the race, and several times whilst running it. Marshalls nice and friendly, if a bit thin on the ground. Lovely scenery, shame about the traffic jams - running uphill breathing in fumes wasn't much fun. Small race, so it was just me and a friend near the back for the most part, with no-one else in sight. Probably better for more experienced runners. Date of review: August 21, 2006

In short: HILLY AND CHALLENGING In full: this was a challenging race with plenty of hills to go up not what you would class as pb potential.i dis the iow marathon this year and thought that was hilly but this seemed to be worse!the marshalls and organisation were every bit as good as the iow marathon but the only bad thing was the amount of 'yobs' in cars going past shouting out crude messages to the runners as they went past and the lack of patience from cars as the went past us , is this realy the way that the islanders are? (don't get this problem in other races on the mainland!!

In short: Bloody hard work this one. In full: From a personal perspective one horrible race, although I achieved a PB found the whole race a nightmare. Although I had done this route in training 15 minutes quicker, found today a right mare.I will do it again as I know I can do better. If you like hills then this is a good race for you. Hats off to the chap that won in 1:10. If only I ws that good. Thanks to Ryde Harriers and lets not forget the marshalls. Could have done with one on the right turn to the finish, noticed quite a few people missed the turn and expected to finish on the road where the start was. Date of review: August 20, 2006

In short: Small & friendly, well run & a good stiff challenge In full: Only downside a bit 'fumey'and traffic heavy but only at one point. Otherwise a really positive experience. I've only done London before and this is the polar opposite in terms of size, I spoke to more people here than at 3 FLMs together. I'll be back but save the PBs for a flat one. Perfectly possible to ferry across and back same day from London area but a sunny forecast will make a family weekend of it. Date of review: May 30, 2006

In short: Wet - very wet - the marshalls were fantastic In full: One of the "old fashioned " events that has moved with the times and welcomes all standard of runners - might have been a record turn out this year - pity about the weather ! Previous years we have had the tar melting and sticking to our trainers !
Congratulations on the 50th IOW Marathon - but who designed the t/shirt ? Date of review: May 29, 2006
