In short: They have to support it to let it grow properly In full: No one in Edinburgh wanted the festival and the fringe when that started. Would they cancel that now? I don't think so!
The course was good and I went to some bits I had not been to before. If they want to follow London, get the pubs open and get the music playing.
Play anything you want as long as it's loud Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: Enjoyable Race In full: Even though the weather was scorching and the course challenging in places, I have to say it was a great day.
My only gripe is the mile markers in places were off putting as I know that were not accurate.
Edinburgh is a beautiful city and it was a great pleasure to take part in this event and hope to do it again in years to come. Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: Great event, heating bill must have cost...! In full: Having done the last three, I have seen a definate year on year improvement with this year being by far the best. It would be a sin to let it fold and can only hope some major orginisation sees the potential in putting their name to it. Whoe sais it only rains in Edinburgh! Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: Who the hell runs for fun in fancy dress?????? In full: 1st Marathon and a glorious city to start... Loads of winter, windy sub zero training runs really prepared me for today's heat!!!I don't think but got to 19 miles without stopping before adapting the walk/run strategy till the finish which is a PB. Great support and hats off to the Save The Rhino guy, The Womble and the bloke with crutches brandishing the huge St Andrew's flag!!!!! Fair play to you all. Only real gripes are the Relay runners..... Too selfish to let the hardcore nutters through first and delay everyone's start and then unbelievably some walking before mile 1 and even more taking on board water and glucose-gels for a 5 mile stint!!!!! Unbelievable... Other than that a memorable first and good banter towards the Croatia shirt I was wearing (Safer than the England shirt me thinks!!!!) Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: This race needs a big sponsor to survive In full: This is a tough race, and a lot of fears were raised before hand about water as the weather forecasts started to show really high temp's.
I thought I'd run off the course at the Portobello Promenade as it was full of families, etc.
Thanks to all the marshalls, apart from the idiot at the back of Ocean Terminal who said to someone walking,"See the training's paid off".
It would be nice to keep the relay runners back a bit longer than 5 minutes.
But these are minor moans, and I thought it was very well organised.

In short: An improvement on previous years. In full: Despite the hot weathe, a vast improvement to the course since i last participated in 2004. Mile markers were a wee bit unreliable, and there are some areas of the race where support is at a minimum, but overal i enjoyed and it has definite PB potential. Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: hills + heat = tough going, but wonderful support from crowd and runners alike In full: It seems I wasn't along in having signed up to Edinburgh post-London in a bid to improve my time. In the end, the weather put paid to that. Just to finish was a real achievement. Those last 3 miles, uphill all the way, with the midday sun on your back were some of the most difficult I have ever run. The race was generally well organised with lots of water, though faulty mile markers really threw out my pacing. Wonderful crowds, and great cameraderie at the finish. Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: Pretty good considering the heat In full: This is my 4th time running Edinburgh. The course is improving every year but need to improve the finish. Number of toilets shamefull especially given the warning in the race pack about not using Princes Street Gardens. Race pack said there would be water with sports tops - it was a lie screw tops very difficult to drink from. Also given the expense the quality of the T - shirt is very poor and you get to wear the same one as someone running 4 miles of the realy - at least make them a different colour. Otherwise getting better every year. Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: Very well organised race. In full: This was my second time running this marathon and I thought it was great. The only problem was the mile markers were not always that accurate. I ran a 12 min mile followed by a 5 min one (not very likely)! Thanks to everyone who was handing out sweets etc. Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: Fabulous day, but too hot to run a marathon!! In full: Thank goodness there isn't a hosepipe ban in Scotland. The marshalls and supporters where brilliant in supplying drinks and hosepipes to keep the runners cool. On a sombre note, this is my 6th Edinburgh marathon. The one that I ran in the 80's folded. The one that I ran in 1999 folded after only a year. This one has survived for 4 years, but the reports in the press seem to be suggesting that this could be the end of its lifespan. This would be a disaster as Edinburgh deserves a big city marathon. Lets hope all of the problems are resolved and that a sponsor can be found. I agree with the comments about the mile markers and I recall that they were just as bad last year. I was disappointed with the exhibition. It was somewhat conjested and I'm not sure what the reason in having to trail out to Ocean Terminal was. By the time I arrived in Edinburgh, went out to registration came back to the city, checked in at the hotel it was time for the match and the day had virtually gone. I think that I was lucky at the start (joining the 3.30-4.00 hour pen, kept me away from the relay runners). Date of review: June 12, 2006
