In short: Traffic free route, but parking a nightmare In full: Pros: Its great that the route is entirely free of traffic. Also the marshalls and public support along the course was excellent.
Cons: I think the race has gotten too big for the organisers - i queued in traffic for 35 mins through the village in order to park which i have never had to do at a race before. As a result despite being there 50 mins before the start I did not get to warm up. I really felt the lack of a warm up and noticed many others needing to stretch out along the route as well. Also the roads at the start are congested with the sheer amount of runners.
I think this has the potential to be a good race with about 20% less participants. Unfortunately on balance I will not be back next year. Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: Sorry, but it all points down. In full: Horrendous traffic hold-up prior to race meant no time for warm-up, stretching, or getting the feel of the race. Very nearly turned rould to head back for home. Had allowed plenty of time for the journey. Myself and others not in the right frame of mind as a result. Ok medal, the person handing them out seemed more intent on chatting with her friends rather than welcoming me (and others?) back. Goody bag nothing special. The only good thing I can say about this race was the scenery, especially running through the grounds of Christs Hospital. Crawled in with my worst half-marathon time. Something will seriously have to be done about the traffic flow into the car park. Not sure if I will do this one again. Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: A friend recommended this race and their recommendation was sporty on. It's a great race with superb organisation. If you haven't done it before give it a try! Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: Challenging and rewarding race. Excellent organisation. And it rained, again In full: Special thanks to all the marshalls who braved the wet to make this year's renewal another resounding success. Hot tea and chocolate at the finish is always welcomed Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: Bit hillier than expected and wasn't expecting off road bit In full: Good, well organised race. Reminded me a bit of Burnham Beeches. Only grumble was the amount of people at the start wildly over estimating their abilities by starting too far forward and then getting in the way Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: Hillier than expected but excellent organisation In full: Weather OK for the race itself but very wet beforehand. Faultless organisation and a lovely course despite the hills. Thanks to the marshals who pushed me out of the car park! My car now looks like its taken part in a rally.
In short: great course and scenery and good medal In full: this was my first time at this race and it was a shame as the rain ruined the grass for spectators and us really it was a bog mud everywhere, and the cars were in a field so yes my car was stuck but a huge thanks to the marshalls pushing all the cars out. the course was great roads , private roads and grass, and the hills were fun up and down really and back to flat , nice medal, didnt have much in the goodybag just a sweatband and a leaflet, nevermind baggage point was good and quick, if the weather dryer an overall great day out , i got 1h49min, it could of been better but as the roads were narrow it was still congested up to 3 miles so advice for a pb get to the front, thanks to the marshalls aswell Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: why does it always rain ??? In full: another rainy day for this half although not as bad as last year. as with previous years the race was very well organised and the course is lovely except for the few hills ! a big thanks to all the very wet marshalls and the locals of barnes green that came out to cheer us all. the only downside is the parking in the fields, next year i will invest in a 4x4 or a tractor so i can get out of the car park.
