In short: Would be PB heaven - if not for 30deg heat and 11am start!
In full: great first half marathon but like other runners my hopes for a quick time were destroyed by the heat. Didn't appreciate being actively targetted at one or two points by cyclists who found it amusing to cycle straight at you at high speed and then veer away at the last minute. Also the half cups of tepid water at the 2 stops did little to offset the heat and fluid loss. However, great atmosphere and good scenery along the river meant it was still a good run, will definitely run again provided the weather is cooler!

In short: lovely lovely lovely
In full: This one had me smiling all the way round - great marshalls - thanks guys - you kept me going - and although i requested Pimms & ice at mile 11 and never got it - just so thankful there was plenty of water left for the slow ones at the back. This was a great day - dead chuffed with my medal AND certificate - and the food goody bag was a really nice touch - even down to the plastic knife to spread the jam!! - lovely to sit in the shade of the trees and have a picnic. Really encouraging marshalls - the guy at the end who had me believe there was someone right behind me and making me 'sprint' - then me looking round and not a soul behind me! - made me smile all the way home - he made me feel like a winner!! see you next year!!....and BOB - you wanted to know why this was so popular - think you only have to read the other reviews!!!

In short: Glorious sunshine and another year of friendly, well-organised fun.
In full: The weather for this race seems to be tip-top from year to year. The organisers turned on the charm again as well, it's a real treat to feel both welcomed and unintimidated. My only criticism would be that although they claimed to have measured the course precisely, my Garmin came out at 20.90 miles, a fifth of a mile off, just like last year. Consequently I'd be wary of taking your finishing time here as a true PB.

In short: Quick multi-circuit track, fun amateur event with great atmosphere.
In full: Enjoyable six and a bit circuits round the marshes in fun supportive atmosphere and much more fun than most of the big 1/2 Marathons.
2009 was super hot and not all the course was in shade - so punishing.
Not entirely convinced about the distance though, it's the same course as the Homerton fun run where 3 laps = 10k. Jolly good fun though.

In short: Great race & atmosphere
In full: The only improvement to this event would be an earlier start time especially when you consider the race is being held right bang in the middle of the Summer. Excellent organisation and marshalling with a friendly atmosphere.

In short: Good opportunity for pb
In full: No inclines at all - none - nil - ziltch.
2009 was just too hot to actually manage a pb. All in all a nice race, with friendly welcoming stewards & officials. A good training run a month before the GNR. Thanks to the organisers.

In short: Lovely day, friendly atmosphere, brilliantly organised event
In full: I was delighted to be able to take part in an event so close to the area I grew up in. I have played many a game of football on the marshes and it was nice to run a half marathon up there. The organisation was excellent, everyone was so cheery (great warm up routine before the start!) and enthusiastic and the marshalls gave constant support on every lap and it was nice of them to call out runners' names, which really lifted our spirits, especially in the intense heat. It was nice that there was plenty of water available too. All the runners were very encouraging and it made for a great event. Thanks to Ufdance for arranging everything so well, the food, medal and certificate was much appreciated. I will definitely be back for this run next time.

In short: If you want a PB - do this race
In full: A pan flat course perfect for beginners and those looking for a PB. It was a hot day but this helped with the support and encouraged people's friends and family to hang around. If it had been raining it would have been a very different atmosphere. If it had started an hour earlier maybe it would have been better but with a water station every mile and food bags and water at the end they have catered for it very well.
I will be back next year to defend my winning lady title!
