In short: Never a dull footfall :o) In full: A beautifully-organised, friendly, adequately waymarked event on what must be one of the most scenic routes on the race calendar. Which is not to say that it isn't mercilessly tough! "Multi-terrain" doesn't start to describe the variety of underfoot conditions. Lots of undulation, with several substantial ascents and descents. Stiles galore, and if you want to win you need to make a nippy getaway at the start to avoid the early bottlenecks. This will only be my 30k PB until I do another 30k, but it's the sort of race that's worth doing for its own sake. Date of review: August 19, 2007

In short: Enjoyed every second In full: As other people have already said - a fantastic way to spend a Sunday. Didn't know how I'd cope with this one because it is a long way off-road but I really did enjoy every moment. Relaxed, no pressure to get a PB time, just a brilliant, tough, long Sunday run. The mud and the uneven ground and the hills and the quiet paths on my own all made it very memorable. Super course, great directions and friendly marshalling. Nice to see my friend Bryan pop up with his camera several times, no problem at all smiling at him for a change because I was having such fun. Only pity was I hadn't lost enough weight beforehand so had to breath in quite a lot to squeeze through some of the 50 or more stiles/gaps in walls! If I was to make one tiny criticism of one of the best races I've done this year it would be the rather scary busy road crossing about 2 miles from the finish - no marshalls so I could have done with the police who were there actually watching out as I crossed in front of fast-moving cars. But well done Belper Rugby Club, be back next year if I possibly can - and the cold shower (the one that came down from the heavens just as I ran my last mile and the one in the clubhouse) were an added bonus so don't go pandering to the softies and turn the hot water on in future, that would spoil things! In short: What an absolutely wonderful way to pass a Sunday. In full: I'm only dissapointed I haven't done this before.
Ok! My finish time was abysmal but who cares, I have finally found a longer run that I have enjoyed, for the first time in ages. Date of review: August 19, 2007

In short: This race is growing in popularity and no wonder. Tough course, beautiful countryside, super organisation. In full: Really enjoyed this despite a bad cold and an inevitably poor time. The race is challenging in many different ways - but was really well organised and friendly. Will definitely look at this one again. Thanks to all at Belper RUFC who managed a high number of on the day entries really well. Only gripe - have a word with the freezing cold showers!! Date of review: August 19, 2007
