In short: First 10 mile and definitely worth it In full: Really enjoyed it and ran 10mins faster than I expected. Weather awful as first time i have run in those conditions - as a rseult didn't get the timing right and finished with plenty of running. Crowds a little sparse at times (dockyard was like a ghost town)but expect that was due to the weather. Love the firemen cheering - they really made me smile. Date of review: October 23, 2006

In short: Excellent race, thoroughly enjoyed it. Best of all was the night away in Portsmouth. Had a nice meal in the char bar and a COUPLE of drinks afterwards. The warm up bloke was a bit cheesy though, but who cares I had a great time. Date of review: October 23, 2006

In short: Very busy but wonderful atmosphere despite torrential rain. Bands playing along the way was a real bonus. Would def. recommend to someone for a first outing or similar. Great feeling Date of review: October 23, 2006

In short: All the races I take part in lead up to the GSR In full: This was my 3rd GSR and due to the weather the most challenging, despite that I achieved a PB. It was well organised and as usual friendly. I definately want to take part next year, the day after my 55th birthday. Date of review: October 23, 2006

In short: Fantastic day out, well organised, weather was refreshing!!! In full: With a previous time of 1 hour 4 minutes and a predicted time of sub 60, I started near the front of wave 2, it took less than two miles to catch up with the tail end of wave 1 and from there on I was constantly passing people right through to the finish line. I’m convinced the wave system is not to help faster runners get a clear run but to stagger the finishers at the end of the race to prevent over-loading on the line. In other words your predicted time does nothing for your positioning in the wave system, only to hinder many of the faster club runners who are looking for p.b. times, which is a shame. It's also the same for the GNR now.
With that gripe out the way the event itself was superb, well organised, with all the info you needed. I parked near Tesco's in town and got out straight away and that's starting in the 2nd wave!! It's a bit of a walk but i'd rather do that and cool the legs off, than sitting in a car for hours getting cramp.
I love running in the rain, ok it's not the best standing around waiting to start but once you're going it's so refreshing. I managed to pick up all the mile markers on-route which is a 1st for me.
Still a bit expensive overall, but i guess all that organising comes at a cost.
Loved the day and will be back again. Date of review: October 23, 2006

In short: Cold, torrents of rain, nasty last couple of miles.....and brilliant In full: It is busy and the wave start could be better for the faster runners but this is a truly GREAT race and the crowds are always brilliant. Anyone who bothers to read the info shouldn't complain about the parking at the common as it does state that there will be long delays - park in the city instead. The big notice that there were showers to cool runners down at mile 7 made me smile! Date of review: October 23, 2006
