In short: Wonderful In full: Fab run... if you like running in glorious countryside this is for you. We were a bit scared at the beginning when we were given copious notes and instructions along with a map that we might get lost... but the route was (mostly) well signposted and we soon just relaxed and enjoyed the views. And there were many of those...it was so quiet in parts that we startled a deer into our path. Checkpoints always offered cheerful encouragement, water or squash and at some we also got fresh fruit, Mars bars, cake, jelly babies or custard creams. Just be prepared to do a little more than the distance: my Garmin said we did 27 miles. Date of review: August 15, 2011
In short: Mix of Pavements, Trails, Fields, Lanes, Road In full: 30K course: Not as "off-road" as we would have preferred. Hills weren't steep, but the amount of hills suprised us. One section seemed a long time between water stops. A very enjoyable run. Shame about having to run through the city crossing roads towards the finish. Nice atmosphere at the end. Weather was kind too :0) Date of review: August 15, 2011
In short: Superbly organised - sets the standard for trail runs In full: I've never run such a well-organised event with detailed maps and instructions at the start, plus plenty of direction indicators and water stops. Despite the lack of big hills, it was still tough, partly due to the rough terrain. Date of review: August 15, 2011
In short: excellent event In full: I really enjoy this event. It was my third one and the second ultra in salisbury for me. With various distances this is made for everyone. Great scenery, aid stations and organisation. A big thank you to all the helpers. Changing facilities great with use of the leisure centre. It would be good to see the fire service provide their own catering at the start/finish next year making more money for a good cause. Chip times also great. Thanks, Ben. In short: Fantastic 50k In full: If you love running through a variety of scenic countryside with a bit of everything thrown in from forest to castles to camels (yes, camels!) this is the one to do. The 50k was lovely. I will definitely recommend it. Date of review: August 14, 2011
In short: Great Race with something for all abilities In full: I ran the 50K and thoroughly enjoyed it. Regular water stations, and I particularly enjoyed the way the 50K runners also joined the route with the 42K, 30K, and 20K runners.
The downside is that the route goes through the city at the end - crossing busy roads wasn't enjoyable...
All in all - a great run with some lovely hills (not too hard) and some great scenery. Date of review: August 14, 2011
In short: Something for everyone. Choice of several distances, walk or run, some busy roads, but mostly quiet roads or pleasant country trails. In full: I did the '20-km' event, although I think it was somewhat more than 20 km (12.5 miles); in fact, I reckon it was just over a half-marathon also (I made it 13.5 mi). As I paced myself to finish at 12.5 miles and was only passing the Cathedral at that point, I had a fairly arduous last mile! I should have been more prepared for something like, as I did think, on looking at the map of all the routes sent to me a week before, that, 'there's no way all of those routes can all have been arranged to be exactly the required distance.' I suppose some people might feel a bit let down by that, but overall I still had a great day and that's the only criticism I've got - perhaps a note about actual distances in the otherwise very good pre-race info would have been a good idea?
I intend coming back next year for one or other of the races on offer. Great event for all the family. Date of review: August 14, 2011
