In short: flat course, well organised, would do it again In full: My 2nd half-marathon, flat course helped me get under 2 hours for the first time. Event organisation was very good, goody bag at end was perfect - banana, crisps, cake, drink. Samba band was a nice touch too. Date of review: November 24, 2010

In short: A very fast course with slightly odd scenery - a deserted airfield complete with defunct hovercraft! In full: Was especially impressed by the presence of hoards of trainees from the local college on hand to dish out massages + somewhere nice and warm for a cuppa after. In short: A very friendly and well organised event. In full: I began running in May and this was my first half marathon which I knew I was going to be slow at. As all the club runners arrived my heart sank and I looked desperately for a fellow newbie. There were none! Within metres of the start I was at the back, but the benefit of this was the company of a lovely marshal on a bike and he kept me company for the following three hours...(yes, I told you I was a newbie). All the marshals were lovely - friendly and encouraging, even though I was keeping them out in the cold a good twenty minutes after the last runner. It was easy to pick up my chip and the people handing them out were really friendly. The route was flat (apart from two brief inclines up from the promenade) and quiet (especially at the back!). The route comprised of two laps of Daedalus airfield and I shall be quite happy never to see that again. It was eerie and ghost townish with all those long abandoned MOD buildings. The best part of the course was definintely the clear view of the Isle of Wight and all the yachts sailing between there and Southampton. It was a shame this was so brief a view between miles 10 and 11. I would have liked more water, but I noticed most people carried their own with them. I was the last over the line and it felt good as they could say everyone had finished - and they could all pack up and go home! The goodie bag (reusable canvas with the 25th anniversary logo on) was great - especially the homemade cherry cake that was exactly what I needed after finishing! It was well organised and friendly - I will be back next year when I will try not to come in last (I will have done a few more halves and a full marathon by then). I would recommend it to newbies because it was very friendly all round, but be warned it was a little disheartening being lapped by the elite runners on their second lap of Daedalus whilst I was still on my first! Don't let that put you off, as you might have my new buddy on the bike to keep you company! Date of review: November 22, 2010

In short: Good value and great PB potential In full: Fast course but quite exposed so windy in places. Steel band was good but made me get a bit over excited! I liked that you could see the faster runners as the course looped around. Marshalls were great and the race was very well organised. The material goody bag was a nice touch, I am now proudly using it for my lunch at work. Date of review: November 22, 2010

In short: A Tremendous Fast Half In full: I love the race, like the scenery, put up with the HQ, which is about at the limit for the number of runners...But there are three things that stand out 1. the course this a course derived for speed 2. the marshals who were fantastic as ever 3. (and most of all) I will gladly run 13.1miles for a lump of cake that good and that big!!! Date of review: November 22, 2010

In short: The Greatest South Run In full: A little gem. well organised, unpretentious, fast and flat. Anyone who spent ages trying to get out of Gosport after the race might like to join my campaigne to re-open the railway line (tongue in cheek). Date of review: November 22, 2010

In short: Great Half for a PB In full: Good race, very well organized, nice medal and goodies bag, overall highly recommended will defo be back next year. The negatives, queues for the toilets before hand were a joke and leaving car-park after. Date of review: November 22, 2010

In short: Excellent race, well organised and thoroughly enjoyed it. In full: A great race that I will definately be doing again next year, son loved the 'fun run' for the little ones, it's only drawback was the lack of public support, very few crowds around the route and through the airfield there were just the marshalls (who did an excellent job). Still a great course for a PB. Date of review: November 22, 2010
