In short: Muddy but fun
In full: Was a bit muddier than last year (as to be expected given the weather conditions) but great fun, well organised and nice t-shirt. Nice race HQ at local school with friendly tea ladies. Also good to see the school sport records board with numerous old pictures and records set by local hero Dean Macey.
Thank you to all at Benfleet for such a good race.

In short: a very funny, muddy experience.....
In full: Bloody tough, knee deep in cold water, followed by two miles of ankle deep sludge. Created some great Camaraderie, picking each other up from sludgey heaps...

Nicely marashalled, accesible for seeral good spectator viewings from family.

In short: Hard but fair
In full: First time for me, and i won't forget mile 9 in a hurry! Uphill slog through sticky clay deep enough to swallow shoes and probably smaller competitors.

But the rest of the race really isn't as bad as all that. Apart from one short sharp hill, it's very flat. A bit muddy, a bit wet and a bit uneven, but nothing out of the ordinary for cross country. Proper shoes are a must - anyone running in racing flats DESERVES to fall over! - but if you come prepared it's a lovely, enjoyable and scenic race.

Superb organisation and marshalling.

In short: Have the organisers been talking the chaps at the Grisly? In parts people were struggling to stand up & walk with all the mud. Others had a bath after 8 miles jumping through the pond. I loved it but it was tough !!

In short: Challenging or Total Hell depending on your perspective
In full: A very challenging XC race. My first experience of cross country, having previously been spolit with flat road races. Was a bit too much though, with a farcial couple of miles in the middle.Had me slipping, sliding and going onto my bum at least once. This was a very well organised and inexpensive race, with a nice technical shirt too. I won't be rushing back to XC or to this race. But will return in time I'm sure.

In short: Fun but website should have been updated the night b4 to warn 25cm of mud in places
In full: Really was enjoyimg myself until I saw someone suffer a nasty injury in the Country Park section, thereafter the mud was no longer funny. Recommend you do it once but you need specialist foot wear.

In short: Muddy Marvelous!!!
In full: Well, that was fun, great track and it puts races like the Hellrunner to shame as this was alot harder in the cross country section, Starts with a gentle few miles along the sea wall and then a short road section before you enter some very boggy fields and THEN you meet the mud and boy there is alot of mud, finished off with the last few miles near the sea wall again. The club organisers and marshalls are first rate and I will be back next year if a little more prepared. Thanks

In short: Great fun in the mud
In full: Mud and water and falls. The real medieval mud is only for about 4-5km, but what a 4-5km! Clay mud sucking at you shoes, covering them with nice slippery clay, - great fun. Nice scenery to run through and the final 10k you can push for home.

Well organised by Benfleet (more loos please)
