In short: Mud and rain made for extra toughness In full: A great race in one of my favourite areas running. The weather conditions were truly abysmal so not great views from the tops but the added difficulty made the race that much more rewarding. Brilliant marshals! Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Mudfest on a tough course In full: Very well organised race over an incredibly scenic route with more than its fair share of ups and downs. The mud made it tough and after trying to keep my feet dry for the first few miles, I dropped that idea when confronted by a lake! Thanks to the organisers and marshalls for such a great event. In short: Tough, tough, tough... hats off to all the cheery marshals out there!!! In full: This is always a tough race, but the torrential rain and never-ending muddy puddles turned it into a real test of mind over matter..... The atmosphere and encouragement from other runners was superb as usual, but most of all, the support from the equally drowned, wet, cold marshals was the lasting memory of my day - thank you chaps & chapesses!!! In short: Brutally tough and epic race In full: My first trail marathon, brutal conditions with the heavy rain, deep puddles and constant mud. First quarter was relatively friendly but constantly uphill, second and third quarters were cruel and unusual punishment, final quarter should have been easier but my legs were battered and body numb by this stage. Great course marking (although managed to get lost 5km from the finish!), really cheerful marshals (I'll have some of what they must have been taking) and the best race swag I've seen to date. Enter this race, train for it and then do more training. Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Brutal, laughable, fantastic, makes you smile ....what running races should be! In full: This race is special and even though the organiser says it's so much effort to put it on, it's so worth it he does a great job and we should all thank him for a fantastic race. This is what running races should be like! If you want a challenge, want to do a special race that you'll remember and talk about this is the one! You don't find many races like this, everyone should support this one. Marshals are really encouraging, feed stations were great. Medal, t'shirts with your name on, number with your name on, finishers cap and a free meal at the finish! Thanks Trionium!! Date of review: October 13, 2013
In short: Very tough course in very tough condtions In full: I thought I'd seen it all as have done numerous marathons over the north downs, south downs etc but this was my first Trionium Greensand. Very, very, very tough course in horrendous condtions.
Made the first cut off (6 miles) by 4 minutes even though i can comfortably run a 10k in about 50 minutes. They give you 73 minutes to get this far and its mostly up hill all the way to this point.
I do take my hat off to the marshals around the course today as some were very cheery in the rain and wind. My only gripe would be to the organisers to make it clearer where to turn left or turn right as it wasn't obvious at some points along the course and not always manned by a marshal either and as a result I took a few wrong turns and had to have a good look around before I was confident that I was going the right way. Overall the markings were good but just a few needed some fine tuning as I would expect after paying a slightly steep entrance fee that this wouldn't be a problem at all.
Anyway for my first Trionium it was a blast in the awful weather today and I'll be back. Date of review: October 13, 2013
In short: Magnificent race - horrendous weather - hilly.. In full: Great race - but very wet and muddy. Well organised, excellent medal, shirt, breakfast. It couldn't happen without the marshalls, who were superb - even the one who told me I looked like a drowned rat (true). Most runners pretty hardcore, but there were a few doing this as their first marathon. Date of review: October 13, 2013
In short: Wonderful people and punishing hills In full: Brilliant race. Superb organisation, great people, challenging course but all the more fun for that. Different to the usual big city road race, but everyone should do this (or a race like it) at least once. Absolutely loved it. Date of review: October 13, 2013
In short: Challenging trail race brings smile to face In full: OK, running through mud and puddles the size of swimming pools with continuous heavy rain may not be for everyone, but I loved it. It was tough though. Not the cheapest race, but quality throughout and good tech t-shirt and hat, plus free cooked breakfast after. Strongly recommend to anyone fancying a new challenge. In short: It was wet , I wasn't really fit but still a great event In full: Third year in a row for and the first one with very wet. Usual great atmosphere. Training had been rubbish and given conditions discretion won and I turned around just after half way. Glad I did because 3rd quarter is a killer and I ended up running a very enjoyable half and a bit. Date of review: October 13, 2013
