In short: Great quick course with PB potential. Unfortunately no road signs or directions! In full: I preferred the race to the normal city centre route. The course was very quick and with no traffic problems. However - no road signs for the run and I did another 10k trying to get out of Sefton Park! In the end a local bobby kindly directed me. In short: Well organised run, in almost perfect conditions. In full: T-shirt and medal on offer, with plenty of water. Good local support at turning out of park and again at finish. For me this had a better atmosphere than the city centre race of last year. Date of review: October 8, 2006
In short: A race made for experienced runners, but also ideal for beginners In full: I really enjoyed this race and thought the course was really good. I like the way there were a lot of turns on the course - they are always good at increasing your speed a little.
The start was a little crowded, but with 2,000 runners you have to expect those things and fortunately you're quickly into a wide street so there was plenty of room to run at your own pace.
What I found unusual though was the crowds at the finish. I'm only really used to there being a handful of people clipping by the time I get in but there were lots of people there, all cheering and tons of noise generated which was a very welcome boost at the end.
For me, this race had the atomsphere (from both the runners and supporters) of a big city marathon type-event, but with the space to run and being surrounded by sensible runners that makes local club events great. So it was the best of both world's for me. Date of review: October 8, 2006
In short: Took longer to find the car park than run it. In full: Once there the race was great and the roads were no where near as bad as some made out. However trying to find the car park with no signage and a succession of stewards who knew nothing was a pain. Why no signs on the way into Liverpool or even on the park outskirts ? In short: Yet another excellent race event from Run Liverpool - thanks to Alan Rothwell and co for the memories. Good course, PB potential and great support - WE NEED MORE RACES LIKE THIS Date of review: October 8, 2006
In short: A new PB by over 2.5 minutes - I'm well chuffed In full: This was a reasonably well run race with a large field. The bottles of water were most welcome as I did get a little warm. A nice medal and a T shirt that I will wear again. I didn't see a goody bag but personally wouldn't want one anyway. The post race sports drink was YUK.
I didn't see a large clock above the finish line. That's a shame but as I had a stopwatch and my Garmin and had the presence of mind to press both and I know that I beat my PB by 2.5 minutes.
It was a good atmosphere and as I run around Sevvy park regularly anyway its a pleasant enough area to run around and perhaps better than running along Sefton Street?
I'm looking forward to the Half Marathon - Has it been confirmed yet?
And a marathon in August 2008 will be most welcome.
