In short: Tough, tough, tough and tough In full: As a first 10 miler I expected it to be tough and it didn't dissapoint. Miles 2 - 3 are grim, 3 - 4 are little better, who ordered the 30 MPH winds ???? then the knee shattering 5m downhill section and the sting in the tail, the last 1.5m UPHILL. Many on the 8 - 9 MPH pace fell foul of the last hill. Will be back and will crack it without walking ! Overall, very good, well organised, uplifting. Date of review: September 4, 2006
In short: Very tough - but the views are well worth it! In full: Hard going for the first 3 miles or so but what fantastic views when you reach the top!! Very well organised. I was constantly aware of vehicles patroling along the route including medical vehicles which was very reassuring that we were being well looked after. The marshalls were fantastic with their encouragement and it was a great atmosphere at the end. Good quality t-shirt and cap. Really felt like I'd done some serious exercise at the end! In short: I had forgotten how hard this one was! In full: I ran this last year but had forgotten about the hills !
It is tough for the first 4 miles and the wind didn't help. I found the last mile the toughest as it was a slight incline into a strong headwind. I was a minute down on last year and I blame it on that last mile!
That aside I enjoyed the race and like the t-shirt and cap at the finish.
In short: If you don't like hills- maybe you'd better think this one through! In full: With many people in the running club I go to running this one, I thought that I'd give this one a go- and I'm glad I like hill running! It's true what everybody else says- the third mile is an absolute killer- and every time you turn a corner, there's another hill section! But believe me, it's worth it for the fantastic views of the countryside at the top of the hill- very nice!- and the downhill section really helps. A difficult one for PB (I think), because it's basically up/downhills, which can screw up your pacing and timing. Great t-shirt though, marshalls really positive and helpful, good factilities and a great t-shirt memento. Bring on next year's run! Date of review: September 4, 2006
In short: A fantastic race In full: I love this race! I lacked endurance traing this summer and it told in the final two miles which was the main reason I was 3 minutes down on last year. But the views were great, the organisation great and being able to race on traffic free roads is something I can only dream about now I'm living in London.
Loved the t-shirt with the course profile, but where is that downhill section at the start? Date of review: September 3, 2006
In short: A Killer In full: Wow! I hurt when I started, I hurt more when I finished, but had I breath left in between it would have been taken by the scenery. Oh, and a PB, which I was not expecting after mile 3!!!!! Date of review: September 3, 2006
In short: DON'T MAKE THIS YOUR FIRST 10 MILER. IT'S TOUGH! In full: Did this for the second time today (last time was 2 years ago) and forgot how tough the first 5 miles are. The first two miles are steadily uphill, but do not prepare you for the 2-3 mile section, which is like running up Win Hill (the locals will know this). Miles 5-9 are recovery time, but if you've left little for the finish the last mile is also a struggle. Notwithstanding this, it's a well organised race, has fine scenery and an atmosphere to match. Worth doing - but not as a first 10 miler!! Date of review: September 3, 2006
