In short: A cold, wet, muddy fun fest!
In full: Apart from the totally chaotic start, a well organised event that is a great favourite. Not as muddy as last year but a little on the nippy side!. I was glad to stay vertical in the river this year. Hypothermia threatened, but the friendly atmosphere and stunning memento left a warm feeling!

In short: Loved it - best hangover cure ever!!
In full: Absolutely loved this race, despite the cold and rain/snow, I somehow still managed to finish with a smile on my face. Very pleased I'd bought multi-terrain shoes for this though!! Rather bizarre organisation (or lack of it) at the start but overall a big thank you to all the marshalls who did their best to look cheery in the conditions. I'll be back again next year.

In short: loved it!
In full: I tend to avoid cross country runs but this one I really do enjoy. Very muddy, cold and wet today but great fun. Thank you to all the marshalls who somehow managed to stay cheerful whilst standing still in those conditions. And finally- that momento. Absolutely brilliant. Pride of place in my collection. Well done Merry Hill Striders on another excellent event. See you next year.

In short: Ouch!
In full: I'm not sure if I enjoyed this one or not! I didn't mind the weather or the steps or the water crossing but I have never been so knackered! I think it may have been the Jeux Sans Frontieres style clay section in which my legs were moving but my body wasn't. Note to self: get some MT or trail shoes.
Many thanks to the organisers and to all the marshalls.

In short: Lives up to its name. Lots of mud and plenty of opportunity for humiliating photoss
In full: Not as muddy as last year and I'm sure that the several hundred steps have been mysteriously removed! An absolute doddle compared to the behomoth that my rubbish memory had created. Used MT shoes for the first time today so no slipping and sliding. And what about that for a fab momento? Top quality.

Thank you to the cold, wet marshalls, most of whom had expressions approximating "I wish I'd never come", but without them I'd have got hopelessly lost.

In short: Off Road 10K with water crossing and field of 750 mad runners
In full: Proper off-road cross-coutry race through two country parks so plenty of support and spectators to give you a lift when you ask yourself "Why the flip am I doing this on a cold wet Sunday morning in November...?

Chaotic but fun start, varied course and multi terrain route and of course the famous water crossing wading that stream at about mile five - always brings in the crowds waiting for the odd inevitable faller going right under. Great mix of runners - not at all elite-y. Sleet at the finish rounded off the race perfectly. Finishing warms your cockles though mild hypothermia looked a distinct possibility for some this year.
