In short: Good ,testing Winter workout In full: The first race of the year is always a bit of a shock to the system !I tend to alternate this one with the Dartford 10 and there's not much between them.As regards its 2007 incarnation :
Scenery:Great ! almost all on country lanes with picturesqe winter scenery and through pleasant, quiet villages.
PB potential: in January-are you kidding ? ! 2 challenging hills, but mostly mildly undulating and little traffic means it's quicker than it seems when you're running.
Atmosphere:rather flat and unremarkable. This is where, imho, the Dartford 10 is better.
Organisation: top marks all round.Excellent directional signing from the outskirts of Canterbury, plenty of nearby car parking, very effeicient marshalling etc-"10 out of 10".
Value: not cheap and the long sleeved shirt is distinctly "so so".Sorry-that's unduly precious-the race itself was well worth the money.
Beginner-friendliness: you'll certainly find an easier course, but the size of the field means you'll have plenty of company.
Overall: an enjoyable, challenging race to blow away the Winter cobwebs.Needs a bit more "oomph" if it's to maintain its popularity.
In short: lovely day out in the country In full: got a pb today so well chuffed. bit congested up the hill and its always nice to see a loon out walking their dog against a stream of hundreds of runners. i'll be back next year Date of review: January 28, 2007
In short: A Glorius Day for Dog-Walkers as well as runners eh??? In full: Great race again and clockwork organisation. Used it is a pacer for London trying to do 10 slower than normal miles but still came in 7 minutes too quick!!!
Nice touch having the photographer at Mile 8 with the Smile sign before you got to him. I'd love to have seen the photo of the non too courteous dog walker as she came over the top of the hill.
Scene from Zulu no!! Bloody hell runners.... Thousands of em... Date of review: January 28, 2007
In short: Up, Up, Down, Up In full: Thats what the course is, I came away from Dartford thinking that it was the hilliest one I've done even though I did Canterbury last year I forgot the hills and I want to forget them again especially just before 4miles I have to mention though what Andy Stevens said before me though what was that woman doing with the dog, I only hope enough people make a comment and she decides to read the complaints that she got, other than that see you again next year you never know it may be flatter well we can all pray :-) Date of review: January 28, 2007
In short: Good race, bit crowded at the start, but it didn't cause me any problems. In full: My second year to do this one, 2 challenging hills hills at 4 and 7 miles and various smaller "undulations" along the way. I managed a PB today :-) so I'm happy. I'll be back to do this one again next year. Date of review: January 28, 2007
